II. Appendix II
Scriptures Applied to Messiah ben Joseph
(A Summarized Listing)
One of the most telling asspects of the case of Messiah ben Joseph being the
same as Messiah ben David is to consider all the asspects of all those
scriptures which may be sited to give further developed insights and asspects,
including those many scriptures which the various Jews of the two Messiah
mindset have attributed to Messiah ben Joseph, do yeild in coming to grasp the
vast effect of the accepting of Christ being of both houses of Israel, Ephraim
and Judah. In these scriptures is to be found the truth that Messiah ben David
and Messiah ben Joseph is indeed the same Messiah, the one Messiah and clearly
that the Messiah is of the House of Joseph as well as of the house of David.
Genesis
Genesis 48 ~ The Adoption of Ephraim and Manasseh by Jacob, the name of Israel
placed upon Ephraim, and the brithright covenant blessings of the 'Firstborn'
placed upon Ephraim. Thus through Ephraim, that is Ephraim's seed both 'The
Promised Seed of Christ' as well as Ephraim's latter day seed in fulfilling
the gospel covenant.
Genesis 49 ~ The Shepherd and Stone of Israel comes thence from
Joseph (v24). Joseph's seed is a fruitful bough which will run over the
borders of Israel into all nations, even to the utmost bounds of the
everlasting hills and the land of Adam, that being Joseph's land of promise,
and the place of the Lord's New Jerusalem from which he will rule and reign
as the head of the house of Joseph (v22-24 and as coupled to other scripture).
JST Genesis 50 ~ Out of the 'fruit of my loins' that is the seed of Joseph,
shall the Lord God raise up a prophet which shall deliver Israel out of
Egypt. Since the Messiah was known to be of Joseph's seed also, it was
important that this prophet be not confussed with the Messiah, thus it was
specifically pointed out that Moses was not the Messiah who is called Shilo. (v24)
Now just how was Moses Joseph's seed? Moses was 'adopted' by the king's
daughter to be her own son. And Joseph was told that Moses would be of his
house because he would be so adopted and nuresed by the king's daughter and
'shall be called her son'. This meand that the king's daughter was of the
house of Joseph. It is not a big jump from being the ruler over all of Egypt
as so placed by Pharaoh to having one's children marry into and become a part
of the royal house of Egypt. This implies that this had occured and that Moses
because of his being adopted by the king's daughter was thus made to be of
the seed of Joseph, though born a Levite. And it also implies that that
Pharaoh who not longer 'knew Joseph' was a descendant of Joseph who did
reject his father Joseph as well as the Israelite people in chosing Egypt
over Israel. (v29)
Numbers
Numbers 13:16: "And Moses called Oshea the son of
Nun Jehoshua", meaning Jehovah Redeems or Saves his people. And so the son
of Nun was given that name of the Messiah to come purposefully as it was
so known by Moses that the 'seed' would so come down and through the 'seed'
of Joshua the son of Nun, he being the rightful heir of the birthright
covenant of the firstborn, Ephraim having been given it of Jacob in the
stead of Rueben the firstborn.
Deuteronomy
Deuteronomy 25:5-10: By the law of Levirate Marriage is
the Messiah become of the blood of Judah and the rightful heir of the
birthright covenant of Joseph.
Ruth
Ruth 1:2: The family of Elimelech is Ephrathite,
meaning Ephraimite.
Ruth 4:5 & 10: Boaz did but raise up seed unto the
dead. The dead being Mahlon in reality and unto all the 'dead' of mankind
in symbolism that it was and is Christ's mission to provide that 'the dead'
do rise again in God's provided salvation and redemption.
1 Kings
1 Kings 3:16-28: One ought to ask for what purpose
in Christ is the event of Solomon's judgment of the child claimed by two
houses preserved in scripture? And the answer ought to be that it is the
prophetic foreshadowing and type of the Christ being so claimed and divided
in two between the claim of Leah through Judah and Rachel by the covenant
right through Joseph and his son Ephraim. And that the Jewish dividing of
the child into Messiah ben David and Messiah ben Joseph doth but destroy the
truth of Christ, there being only one Messiah and avenue of return unto God,
is so pointedly portrayed in the story of Solomon and the two women so
claiming the one child, and the true mother, Rachel, being so welling to allow
the false mother's claim in order to so preserve the life of the Child. Thus
today it is generally depicted that Christ is but a Jew that his portrayal
may live when in reality Christ is of Joseph by the covenant Law of God unto
being the true son of the covenant unto salvation and exaltation.
1 Chronicles
1 Chronicles 5:1-2: The birthright is Joseph's, that
is the covenant ancestry of the Messiah is to be found in Joseph, that is
the source of the Messiah's claim to being the earthly heir of the covenant
promise and proclamation by God the Father of the Everlasting Covenant even
the Covenant of Abraham and that 'the seed' would come by him in that covenant.
And though the Jews will record the 'blood' genealogy of Jesus from Judah,
Boaz being that surrogate who did preserve the 'seed' unto the House of Joseph,
it is but by that adoptive Law of God that Jesus is of the House of Joseph
of Egypt by that Ephrathite or Ephraimite family of Elimelech so showing
that God is truly the proper and rightful 'King of Isreal' - God is
King/Eli-Melech. And thus when Shiloh comes, that is when God/Jesus does come,
the kingdom is his and taken from Judah who has claimed it in David's name.
Psalms
Psalms 85 ~ From the Jewish perspective and understanding
the phrase 'truth springs up from the land, and righteousness looks down
from heaven' refers to the work of Messiah ben Joseph. (v12) Of course we know
that these reference the Book of Mormon and the Restoration. Both of which
are the works of Jesus Christ. For while Joseph Smith was translator,
Mormon and others were the writers of it. But for sure Jesus Christ is its
author and is the power by which it has been brought forth and given to men.
And so also is Christ that Ministering God of the restoration from heaven.
Therefore if this Jesus Christ of the word and restoration is he that is
the same as Messiah ben Joseph, then so there you have it. He is therefore
then also the same as Messiah ben David. They being one and the same
together.
Psalms 118 ~ "The stone which the builders rejected has become
the chief cornerstone" (v22). As noted in the Zohar (on Bamidbar), the Jews
attribute this to an aspect of Joseph and they even cross reference it to
Genesis 49:24, which they render, 'from there he became the shepherd, the
stone of Israel'. Thus they correctly associate both verses to each other,
but they miss what Jesus Christ pointed out, that it was to him the Messiah
of which these did speak, and not merely concerning Joseph of Egypt but more
particularly unto that 'promised seed' of the covenant which was to come
from him, the Messiah, even Jesus Christ himself (Matthew 21:42, Mark 12:10,
Luke 20:17, Acts 4:10-11, Jacob 4:17). He being both Messiah ben
Joseph and Messiah ben David. Note it should be here noted and cross
referenced that in D&C 50:44, Jesus Christ clearly states, 'I am ... the
stone of Israel'. Thus it is not Joseph of Egypt who is to be considered that
stone of Israel, though he is that ancestor from whom it doth rightfully and
legally come.
Jeremiah
Jeremiah 31 ~ 'Ephraim My Firstborn', we presume that this
speaks of Ephraim the second son of Joseph of Egypt. (v9) But what if like
so many others, Ephraim is but another name of Jehovah bestowed upon Joseph's
second son, and that this actually speaks dualistically of Jesus Christ
Ephraim the Firstborn of God the Father of Spirits in the preexistance as well
as having a reference to the position in Israel helf by Ephraim?
Ezekiel
Ezekiel 37 ~
Habakkuk
Habakkuk 3 ~ When the Jews divide the Messiah into two, they
often attribute every Messianic scripture which includes the term 'salvation'
to the character of Messiah ben Joseph who is to come forth and save in time
of trouble. (v16) The actual Messiah of chapter 3 is the Messiah of the
second coming, as Habakkuk has writing in a 'psalm' form his vision of that
coming event as commanded him by the Lord. Thus that Messiah of that latter
day destruction and deliverance, it being a great day for the righteous and
a dreadful day unto the wicked, is the same Messiah, not only Messiah ben
David but also Messiah ben Joseph; who is but one and the same Messiah, Jesus
Christ.
Matthew
Matthew 1 ~ Matthew gives the genealogy of Jesus Christ, his
'Royal Genealogy' by which Jesus had the right of claim to the throne of
David. Like most 'Royal Genealogies', it was not always from father to son
as there had been some break downs in the paternal lines. Thus upon occasions
there were near kinsmen, who by right did raise up seed to the Royal Line so
to speak. In addition Matthew makes specific mention of four women in the
ancestral linage of Jesus. These are Thamar, Rachab, Ruth and Bathsheba. Of
these four at least three are women not of the house of Israel, Rachab or
Rahab was an 'Innkeeper' and Gentile citizen of Jericho, Ruth the Moabite
descendant of Lot, Tamar or Thamar the Gentile Cannanite and Bathsheba with
an unknown ancestry but wife of Uriah a Hittite. Herein lies enough
cause for the Pharisees to state of Jesus, 'Say we not well that thou art a
Samaritan?', considering also that Jesus was legally of Ephraim as well as by
mothers of other nations. In addition this gives rise to the 'low esteem'
which seeming a number of the Jews had for the house of David. Again, of the
four at least three had played the role of a harlot according to Jewish
record, and perhaps even Ruth's act at the feet of Boaz that night could be
considered such. Thus the house of David had its share of ancestry of other
nations and of ill repute. There is also one other element exemplified by
these women. Tamar, Ruth, Bathsheba and perhaps even Rachab were involved
with the Law of God and that of adoptive births. All had been wives to prior
husbands, Tamar to Er and Onan, Ruth to Mahlon if not also Chilion, Rachab
is traditionally made the wife of Joshua of the tribe of Ephraim first and
of course Bathsheba was the wife of Uriah the Hittite. And thus there is
ample room for the cross over to Ephraim in at least two of these marriages,
that of Rachab and Ruth, the two which likely made Boaz, not the nearest,
but a 'near' kinsman to Elimelech the Ephrathite or Ephraimite.
Matthew 2 ~ It is in the second chapter of Matthew that Matthew
quotes from the prophet Jeremiah concerning Rachel's connection to the
house of David. He reports that King Herod's command to slay the children of
the regions of the house of David included Bethlehem and all the coasts
thereof, that is all the land regions of which a descendant of King David
might dwell in and likely including all who could be associated with the
regional area know as Ramah, which is the hill countries of Ephraim, which
well included that sector of Bethlehem known as Bethlehem of Ephratha. This
included John son of Zararias, he being of that Levite group who resided in
and was also known as being associated with Epharim. Further it is seemingly
of great importance that it was Rachel who mourned weeping 'for her
children' and NOT Leah. This again associates Jesus with that
sector of ancestry coming down through Rachel to Joseph and thence through
Ephraim to the promised Messiah ben Joseph or Ephraim.
And there is one other matter when associated with John's gospel, John 1:45,
which Matthew also makes. John reports that Moses and the prophets had
written and prophesied concerning Christ that he was to be of Nazareth and
was to be the Son of Joseph, meaning Joseph of Egypt. Matthew also confirms
that there is 'missing', having been removed since the days of Jesus and
both Matthew's and John's records, such scriptures which clearly denoted
that the Christ named Jesus would dwell in and come out of the city of
Nazareth, which John also associated with it further being written perhaps
in that same missing prophetic writings that he was to be considered the
Son of Joseph, that shepherd and stone of Israel promised to be of Joseph
by Jacob in Joseph's blessing (Genesis 49:24).
Luke
Luke 15 ~ In the 15th chapter of Luke Jesus gives
three parables concerning 'the lost'. These are the parables
of the Lost Sheep, the Lost Coin and the Prodical Son. Each speaks of that
which is lost and in the last parable it become quite clear as to just what
the Savior was speaking. Of the two sons of Israel, the older and the younger
in the nations and kingdoms of Israel, these would be Judah and Ephraim,
Ephraim being the younger, the prodical, the lost, even the Lost Sheep of
Israel. And the end result of the 'lost sheep' is given in John 10:16 which
is echoed in the Book of Mormon 3 Nephi 15:12-21 and is further explained in
as to extended significance in Ezekiel chapter 37.
John
John 10 ~ The lost sheep and one shepherd.
2 Nephi
2 Nephi 3:; Messiah is of Joseph though Joseph Smith
is NOT to be considered the Messiah. Also Joseph Smith is that prophet so
raised up to stand for Christ of the latter day as portrayed in Isaiah 11 and
D&C 113. And thus there is a close relationship between Joseph Smith and Jesus,
though it must be stated that Joseph Smith 'IS NOT' that expected Messiah
ben Joseph and that only Jesus Christ is to be so properly designated as
being that Messiah ben Joseph, the Messiah of the Covenant blessings and
promises.
2 Nephi 25:18: 'There is save but one Messiah so
spoken of by the prophets and the scriptures'. It is he and only he who is
the 'true Messiah' and we ought NOT look forwrd to any more to come for there
should not any other come. And any such Messiah that reports to come is but
a false Messiah which should deceive the people. And thus though there be
a Messiah ben David and a Messiah ben Joseph, they are not two different
Messiahs, but one in the same Messiah bearing two names, the name of his
blood descent and the name of his rightful and legal descent according to
the Laws of God.
3 Nephi 15
3 Nephi 15 ~ The lost sheep and one shepherd.
Doctrine and Covenants
Section 27:10: The blessings of the fathers, the
covenant from Adam to Enoch to Noah and thence through Abraham, Isaac and
Jacob is preserved through Joseph, NOT Judah. And this through Joseph unto
Christ, Christ being the rightful son of the covenant as the legal and
rightful 'adopted son' of the covenant, even the one true and only Son of
God by whom salvation comes and in no other Messiah is this to be found. Thus
Messiah ben David and Messiah ben Joseph are but one and the same Messiah,
the only Messiah, Jesus Christ.
Section 50 ~ "I am ... the stone of Israel." (v44)
Section 113: Christ is linially both the son of
Jesse and Joseph, Obed the ancestor of David being but that seed so raised
up to the dead, Mahlon the Ephraimite.
