118. The True Mother of Israel ~ Rachel
(The Consummate Mother of All Israel)

Though many references have been made to Rachel as the Mother of Israel throughout this text, they were not there particularly supported as it is in this particular section as much is examined in greater detail herein. And most likely, when it was stated that Rachel was the 'Mother of Israel', many a reader would have taken exception, at least to the fact of her being the one who 'exclusively' should lay claim to it. For indeed there are others who are also recognized as 'Mothers of Israel'. In particular Jewish tradition would point to four such mothers, beginning with Sarah, then Rebekah, Leah and also Rachel, as being such as 'Mother of Israel' figures. This and other such points will be reviewed in this section.

Particularly from an LDS point of view, one must indeed consider just how far reaching the claim to being the 'premiere' Mother of All Israel is. Now there are other 'Mothers of Israel' indeed. And perhaps in the broadest perspective which is being considered here, one ought to begin with Eve, the Mother of All Living. For also indeed, all who 'prevail' in God, even beyond the literal children of Jacob or Israel, Issac and Abraham, must come under the umbrella of being of the House of Israel. All the nations of the earth, all who ever has, does or will live, must come under the all encompassing umbrella of the Everlasting Covenant, the Abrahamic Covenant, those promises of the Fathers which were first made to Adam and all Adam's posterity from before the foundation of the earth. Thus it is that the 'Premiere Mother of All Israel' does stand in that same level as does the 'Mother of All Living', even Eve. That is where Eve stands as the Mother of All Living, and as the way by which we all have come into this our second estate; Rachel, by her position held, stands as the Mother of All those who so 'Prevail' in the Lord as being of the Covenant, even of the universal 'House of Israel'.

Just what is it about that position held by Jacob and his wife of preference, Rachel, as the Father and Mother of All Israel? Judah, himself, at one point was willing to commit murder to obtain the position in the family of being the heir of the Covenant, of the Birthright. Yet due to the intervention of Reuben, who, he himself, had already lost that birthright, Joseph was speared, and Judah settled for selling his brother into slavery in order to still remove the perceived obsticle to his ambitions.

Even today, the Jews so recognize Rachel as the True Mother of Israel, and do persist in calling upon her to intervene in the return of Israel in many ways including even formal foundations such as 'Rachel's Children Reclamation Foundation'. Yet even in this, the Jews having procliamed the perspective of having prevailed in Israel over their brothren, including Joseph and Ephraim, as they so consider it to first and foremost specifically apply to themselves with only little and secondary consideration to what it all means to the whole of Israel little alone to the true and rightful heir of Joseph, Rachel's Firstborn and Ephraim the so adopted 'Firstborn Son of Jacob as Israel; he/they being the True Firstborn and even so recognized by the Lord in this respect of being the Firstborn of Israel.
