57. The Covenant ~ Fulfiller of the Covenant to All the World
Who is the 'messenger of the covenant'? Who is the 'everlasting covenant'?
Who is the 'covenant of the people? Who is the 'covenant of peace'? Who is
the 'covenant of the Father'? Who is the 'Covenant of God'? Who is the
'Covenant of Abraham'? Who is the 'Covenant'? Who is the 'Old Testament',
the 'Old Covenant'? Who is the 'New Testament', the 'New Covenant'? Who is
the 'Covenant of the Fathers'? Is not Jehovah as Jesus Christ all of these?
Now how can the Covenant be divided? How can the Covenant of the Meridian
be separate and distinct from the Covenant to Adam? How can the Covenant
of Moses be separate and distinct from the Covenant of the Latter=Days?
How can the Covenant made by the Father to His spirit children in the
preexistence be separate and distinct from the Covenant completed and
fulfilled in the final Judgements of God upon the earth? They are not
saprate and distinct from each other. They are one and the same Covenant and
that Covenant is Jesus Christ.
Now with that understanding tha perspective of 'The Covenant', we are
perpared to consider just how it is that the 'Covenant of the taking
the Gospel to All the World' in the meridian of time is different from that
in the latter days. We have well established that the Covenant is in Christ.
We know that he who brought the covenant to those of the Old Testament
was Jehovah, who is the same as Jesus Christ. We know that it was by the
condescention of God that the Covenant was brought to the world in the
meridian of time by that same being, Jehovah as Jesus Christ. And we must
further understand that it is this same being, this same Jehovah, this
same Jesus Christ who it is who brings and takes the Covenant to all the
world in these Latter-days.
It was Jesus Christ, as anounced by God the Father who first appeared unto
Joseph Smith, in that sacred grove, in that sacred garden woodland, and
who first gave the commandments and instructions to the bringing forth of the
Everlasting Gospel, the Everlasting Covenant of God to all the world in
these latter-days. It is under the His direction and administration to this
earth that the Gospel has come forth unto the world in our day. All the
Administering Angels both of spirit and of reserection are His, they work
under His administration and authority. The whole of the orchestration of
the bring forth of the Gospel to all the world in the latter days is by
Him, Jesus Christ, the Great Jehovah. It is under his hand. He controls it,
he is, was and will forever be that author of the Covenant to the world.
It was Christ who first appeared in the first temple of the latter-day
restoration. He stood upon the breastwork of the pulpit. (See D&C 110:1-10)
"His eyes were as a flame of fire; the hair of his head was white like the
pure snow, is countenance shone above the brightness of the sun, and his
voice was as the sound of the rushing of great waters, even the voice of
Jehovah, saying: 'I am the first and the last; I am he who liveth, I am he
who was slain; I am your advocate with the Father.'" ~ D&C 110:3-4
Jehovah was, is, and will continue to be He who is the Covenant of the Father.
He was the first and wil continue to be even unto the last. None other is
subsituted for him through out. From the eternity of our premortal spirit
existence to the eternity of immortality and exhaltation, from one eternal
realm to the other during this second estate in time, it is Jehovah even
Jesus Christ who is forever the fulfillment of the Covenant of the Father
with mankind. He and no one else. There is none other. It is He and only
He who stands as our advocate with the Father. Salvation comes by none other
whether in the days of Adam, Enoch, Noah, Abaraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph,
Ephraim, Moses, Joshua, or Joseph Smith. It is Christ who is the single
Messiah and Savior of all the world in all the despensations of time. And
there is no other.
Now, who was the 'messenger of the covenant' who took the gospel to the all
the earth in the days of Adam, Abraham and Moses? Is it not Jehovah who is
Christ? And who is it who is the 'messenger of the covenant' who took the
gospel to all the earth in the meridian of time, both to the Old World
of Jerusalem and the New World of Bountiful? Was it not Jehovah who is
Jesus Christ? And now, who is it who is the messenger of the covenant to
all the world in the latter-days and the millennium? Is it not this same
Jesus Christ, our Great Jehovah who is our Lord of these latter-days who
has commissioned and is fully in charge of the taking of the covenant to all
the world? It is! There is not doubt nor qualification about it. It Is!
IT IS! I can bear witness to it.
Now a slight matter of propriety and authorization if you will. Who was it
bestowed upon to be who should take the gospel to all the earth in the latter
days in fulfillment of the Covenant of Abraham? Did not that covenant blessing
rest upon the head of Ehpraim as bestowed by the hand of Jacob as recorded in
the 48th chapter of Genesis? Was not it the 'seed of Ephraim' as
aided by the seed of his brother Manasseh, who was to carry the gospel to
every nation kindred tongue and people, to the blessing of the whole earth by
the seed of Abraham? Was not that the seed of Ephraim as so stipulated in
the Old Testament as well as by our own modern revelations upon the subject?
I submit to you that it was.
Now, a mere technecality, if you will. Who takes the Gospel Covenant to all
the world? Did not we establish that messenger of it to be Jesus Christ,
even Jehovah in all despensations of time, past, present and future? Did we
not establish that it is by Him and by none other? Now how can we remove
Him, Jesus Christ, from those who would take the blessings of the covenant
to those of the latter-day? When he it was who first appeared to Joseph Smith
in the sacred grove, when it was he who first appeared in the Kirtland temple
and when it is under his administration and direction in all things whereby
this gospel of the covenant is taken to all the world in the latter-days; how
can we remove him from still being that messenger of the covenant as he had
forever been and will forever be? We can not!
Jesus Christ is the fulfiller of the Covenant of Abraham to man in the
latter-days as much as he ever was the bearer and fulfiller of the covenant
is every and all despensations of time. Now if that blessing of taking
the blessings of the covenant of Abaraham had been reserved to the seed of
Ephraim in the latter-days, how can it eliminate Christ from that role? Now
can it not include Him, who right it is, was and always will be as the
eternal messenger of the covenant to the world in all despensation of time?
It can not? Jesus Christ cannot be removed from the blessing of the covenant.
He can not be removed from the covenant and its carrying forth to all the
world in the latter-days. You can not one day include Him and in another day
eliminate Him when it is to be Him who is that messenger of the coveant in
all despensation of time. Yet that is what has been done.
When we make Jesus the sole descendant of Judah and not Joseph and Ephriam,
then we have removed Him from being the messenger of the covenant to all the
world in the latter-days, for it is given to Ephraim to fulfill that role.
When we remove the birth of Christ to solely be of the tribe of Judah and
not of Joseph we have so removed Christ from the fulfillment of the Covenant,
the Covenant of the Fathers, the Covenant of Abraham in taking the blessings
of that covanant to all the nations of the earth in the latter-days. Now it
is the purpose of this text not to so remove Christ from being that messenger
of the covenant in all dispensations of time and especially in this the
dispensation of the fulness of times when the covenant is taken to all the
world in the name of Jesus Christ.
It is the purpose of this paper to present that Jesus Christ is not only the
Messiah come of the blood of Judah, but that Christ is of legal and rightful
birth the seed and heir of Ephraim and Joseph and the blessing thereof. He is
the very Messiah ben Joseph, who is not only part but the whole directing
force of the fulfillment of the covenant placed upon the head of Ephraim in
taking the everlasting covenant of the everlasting gospel to all the world.
That blessing of responsiblity was bestowed upon he head of Ephriam, and it
through the legal and rightful seed of Eprhaim by whom it is ministered to
so be taken into all the world in the latter days.
This last consideration in logic places Christ as the primary heir of not
only the Covenant of Abraham but of that some covanant which was bestowed
upon the head of Ephraim by Jacob. The heritage and birth right of heirship
of the Savior cannot be removed from being of Ephraim without so removing him
from the responsibility of carrying forth the blessings of the covenant to
all the earth in the latter days. He is not so removed. He is the legal and
rightful heir of the Law of God to be that very administrative, ministering
and guiding force of the covenant in the latter days as in all days past
and future. Christ is not removed from that heirship. He is Messiah ben
Joseph, the son of the covenant, even the very covenant as it was continued
to be conveyed to Abraham to Jacob and from Jacob upon the head of Ephriam.
The covenant blessings where not divided between Judah and Joseph. Judah
never was worth of the covenant. It came to Joseph and his son Ephraim by
the hand of Jacob. The Savior, though 'hiden' in the blood of Judah, we
indeed the very heir of the covenant, the legal and rightful heir of the
covenant, as he was under the Law of God as set out by Moses, the legal
and rightful seed of Mahlon the Ephrathite, Boaz performing as the vicarious
surrogate father, Mahlon being the legal and rightful father of Obed under
the covenant and Law of God.
So how is Christ the heir of the covenant of taking the Covenant of God to
all the world in every despensation, even including the dispensation of the
fulness of times which was bestowed upon the head of Ephraim. It is simple
when one considers the solution. Christ was and is the legal and rightful
heir of Ephraim, though of the blood of Judah, it was that blood which was
sacrificed and yield up. Christ himself was of the heirship, legally and
rightfully of the tribe of Eprhaim, of the house of Joseph. It was Joseph
who did preserve Israel temporally in similitude of the Christ. It is the
Christ himself who does preserve Israel spritually in all despensations, even
in this despensation of the fulness of times which was given to be under
the seed of Ephraim, for Christ is that legal and rightful heirship seed even
of Ephraim to the fulfillment of all things in Him, through Him and of Him.
CHRIST IS OF EPHRAIM AND OF JOSEPH ~ EVEN MESSIAH BEN JOSEPH.
