BENNEY/BENNY Depending on one's background, this last name is given to mean various meanings relative to one's own personal back ground. From the middle east and Biblical frame of reference, the name relates to the name of Benjamin and such meanings as there derived. From an European frame of mind it is said to be of a Latin extraction relative to the name of Benedict. If you have a long historical appreciation of Cornwall over the ages, a benny is a clump of ores as Cornwall has long been the source of tin and copper and mining has taken place there back to the ancient days. So I suppose you take your pick. If of a religious mind you might like Benjamin or Benedict which relates to benediction or blessing. Though again this family ancestry is merely a manner of accessing what is to be found in the parish records online at the OPC database and a few other miscellaneous notes online.

* She is said to have been the daughter of Edward Pearce whose listed with four children, Robert
Pearce, John Pearce (d. 1666), Mary Pearce wife of William Benny, and Henry Pearce. Edward Pearce
himself is said to have died in 1641, which depending upon such source for this family—such
as his will?— would give reason why Edward Benny born after 1641 and whose baptism was 1
Jun 1645 was missing from the family group. Also missing from the family group is a first born
Thomas Benny in about 1624 (his baptism date) as he would appear to have died a baby and the next
male Benny was again named Thomas as well. It does seem of some interest that the Benny family
did not name a son after 'grandpa' Edward Pearce until after grandpa's death in 1641. Certainly
is Mary [Pearce] Benny lived until 1669, she would have been living and the mother of Edward born
1645 at about the age 44 herself. A caboose for lately deceased grandpa?
