              CHAPTER 13

David fetches the ark from Kirjath-jearim—Uzza slain by the Lord when he steadied the ark̶House of Oded=edom prospers because ark rests with them.

AND David consulted with the captains of thousands and hundreds, and with every leader.
And David said unto all the congregation of Israel, If it seem good unto you, and that it be of the LORD our God, let us send abroad unto our brethren every where, that are left in all the land of Israel, and with them also to the priests and Levites which are in their cities and suburbs, that they may gather themselves unto us:
And let us bring again the aark of our God to us: for we enquired not at it in the days of Saul.
And all the acongregation said that they would do so: for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.
So David agathered all Israel together, from bShihor of Egypt even unto the entering of Hemath, to bring the ark of God from Kirjath-jearim.
And David went up, and all Israel, to Baalah, that is, to Kirjath-jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up thence the ark of God the LORD, that dwelleth between the cherubims, whose name is called on it.
And they carried the ark of God in a new cart out of the house of Abinadab: and Uzza and Ahio drave the cart.
And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, and with asinging, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.
¶ And when they came unto the threshingfloor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen stumbled.
And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and he smote him, because he put his ahand to the bark: and there he died before God.
And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a abreach upon Uzza: wherefore that place is called Perez-uzza to this day.
And David was afraid of Goda that day, saying, How shall I bring the ark of God home to me?
King David and the People 'Play' While Uzzah Steadies the Ark
a David was afraid of God Now David was quite enthusiactic and spontainious in various matters which he did. And we must look at the two aspects of David's life, that his his personal life and nature and that of his public life. In his public life he was always right before the Lord, serving the people well as the King of Israel and as an example as to the right way before the Lord Jehovah in his national commitment to the worship of the Lord. But as many who so lead, while David was a stellar public servant, David in his personal life and being was prone to human weakness, sin and failings. Such was the case with that inident of Bathsheba. Perhaps here in this event of David's attempt of bring of the ark to Jerusalem we may see a view of David's personal impetuousness. David had determined of himself that he was going to bring the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem. David had not sought such direction of the Lord to do so through God's prophet Samuel or otherwise. Thus when the 'acident' of Uzza's death on the one hand David was 'displeased' that his personal determined desire became ill fated and on the other hand, since David had not properly enquired of the Lord as to the rightness of his action, David did fear and 'was afraid of God' that perchance God's anger would come against David. David had acted without thinking or asking. What the Lord would have answered David if asked and whether such venture if so approved by the Lord would have not been so 'fatally' effected is of some consideration and would not likely have turned out as had David's personal efforts alone in the matter.
So David brought not the aark home to himself to the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.
And the ark of God remained with the family of Obed-edom in his house three months. And the LORD ablessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that he had.
