30 Then Saul's aanger was kindled
against Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou son of the perverse rebellious
woman, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine
own confusion, and unto the confusion of thy mother's nakedness?
31 For as long as the son of Jesse
livetha upon the
ground, thou shalt not be aestablished, nor thy kingdom.
Wherefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die.

liveth At some time and by some means Saul at this point has
determined that it is David who is chosen to succeed Saul and his family as
king of Israel. Whether an obvious deduction of a rumor having leaked the
information, Saul knows that his only hope of not loosing the throne to David
is for David to be killed.
