1a Baasha king of Israel came up against
Judah, and built Ramah, to the intent that he might let none go out or come
in Because of the migration from the Kingdom of Israel such as
stipulated in 1 Chronicles 15:9, the King of Israel, Baasha, felt it
necessary to secure his border with the Kingdom of Judah. He did this by
coming up against Judah with the intent to build a city of blockade at the
pass of Ramah between the two nations. Judah or Asa, the king, took this
as an offensive against Judah and secured the aid of Syria by the payment of
silver and gold out of the treasure of the house of the LORD. Thus Asa was
relying upon the arm of man rather than upon the Lord his God.
