13 And he acarried out thence all
the btreasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures
of the king's house, and cut in pieces all the cvessels of
gold which dSolomon king of Israel had made in the temple
of the LORD, as the LORD had said.
14 And he acarried away all
Jerusalem, and all the princes, and all the mighty men of valour, even
ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and bsmiths:
none remained, save the poorest
sorta of the people of the land.

14a none remained, save the poorest
sort Now this report of who Nebuchadnezzar did leave must take
into consideration the ages and not only the skills. And also from just where
these he took did dwell. For Lehi's family was one of young children and not
of 'mighty men' and thus in that Lehi's family was spared. Also it must be
considered that Lehi, though of the greater land and towns of Jerusalem, Lehi's
lands of inheritance were likely well outside the city walls, such as was
Bethlehem, and not of the city proper. And Nephi reports that his father's wealth was exceedinly great
such that even such a one as Laban, the chief captain of the guard of the
Sarim, did lust after it. Thus the seige and sacking of Jerusalem likely
mainly stayed in those bounds of the city and near neighborhoods and not from
door to door throughout the country side.
