           SECTION 112

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet to Thomas B. Marsh, at Kirtland, Ohio, July 23, 1837. HC 2:499—501. The word of the Lord unto Thomas B. Marsh, concerning the Twelve Apostles of the Lamb. The Prophet records that this revelation was received on the day on which the gospel was first preached in England. Thomas B. Marsh was at this time president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

    1—10, The Twelve are to send the gospel and raise the warning voice to all nations and people;
    11—15, They are to take up their cross, follow Jesus, and feed his sheep;
    16—20, Those who receive the First Presidency receive the Lord;
    21—29, Darkness covers the earth, and only those who believe and are baptized shall be saved;
    30—34, The First Presidency and the Twelve holds the keys of the dispensation of the fulness of times.
D&C 112:1 Verily thus saith the Lord unto you my servant Thomas: I have heard thy prayers; and thine aalms have come up as a bmemorial before me, in behalf of those, thy brethren, who were chosen to bear testimony of my name and to csend it abroad among all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people, and ordained through the instrumentality of my servants.
D&C 112:2 Verily I say unto you, there have been some few things in thine heart and with thee with which I, the Lord, was not well pleased.
D&C 112:3 Nevertheless, inasmuch as thou hast aabased thyself thou shalt be exalted; therefore, all thy sins are forgiven thee.

D&C 112:4 Let thy heart be of good acheer before my face; and thou shalt bear record of my name, not only unto the bGentiles, but also unto the Jews; and thou shalt send forth my word unto the ends of the earth.
D&C 112:5 aContend thou, therefore, morning by morning; and day after day let thy bwarning voice go forth; and when the night cometh let not the inhabitants of the earth slumber, because of thy cspeech.
D&C 112:6 Let thy habitation be known in Zion, and aremove not thy house; for I, the Lord, have a great work for thee to do, in publishing my name among the children of men.

D&C 112:7 Therefore, agird up thy loins for the work. Let thy feet be shod also, for thou art chosen, and thy path lieth among the mountains, and among many nations.
D&C 112:8 And by thy word many high ones shall be brought low, and by thy word many low ones shall be aexalted.
D&C 112:9 Thy voice shall be a rebuke unto the transgressor; and at thy arebuke let the tongue of the slanderer cease its perverseness.

D&C 112:10 Be thou ahumble; and the Lord thy God shall blead thee by the hand, and give thee answer to thy prayers.
D&C 112:11 I know thy heart, and have heard thy prayers concerning thy brethren. Be not partial towards them in love above many others, but thy alove be for them as for thy self; and let thy love abound unto all men, and unto all who love my name.
D&C 112:12 And pray for thy brethren of the Twelve. aAdmonish them sharply for my name's sake, and let them be admonished for all their sins, and be ye faithful before me unto my bname.
D&C 112:13 And after their atemptations, and much btribulation, behold, I, the Lord, will feel after them, and if they harden not their hearts, and cstiffen not their necks against me, they shall be dconverted, and I will heal them.

D&C 112:14 Now, I say unto you, and what I say unto you, I say unto all the Twelve: Arise and gird up your loins, take up your across, follow me, and bfeed my sheep.
D&C 112:15 Exalt not yourselves; arebel not against my servant Joseph; for verily I say unto you, I am with him, and my hand shall be over him; and the bkeys which I have given unto him, and also to youward, shall not be taken from him till I come.

D&C 112:16 Verily I say unto you, my servant Thomas, thou art the man whom I have chosen to hold the akeys of my kingdom, as pertaining to the Twelvea, abroad among all nations—
D&C 112:17 That thou mayest be my servant to unlock the door of the kingdom in all places where my servant Joseph, and my servant Sidney, and my servant Hyrum, acannot come;
D&C 112:18 For on them have I laid the burden of all the churches for a little season.

 16a hold the keys of my kingdom, as pertaining to the Twelve The senior member of president of the quorum of the Twelve Apostles holds the keys of the kingdom as pertaining to the Twelve. He is not the Prophet and President and head of the Church except in the event of the death of that man. There upon, the senior member of the Twelve does become heir to the Presidency of the Church. And upon the confirmation of the other members of the Twelve, he may then assume that position as directed by the hand of God under the guidance and direction of the Holy Ghost. And when the Twelve so confirm and anoint him Prophet, Seer and Revelator, he official becomes the President, Prophet and head of the Church. Until that time he does act as such until such time as the Twelve do so comfirm him to be such. This is the order of the kingdom. And so was Thomas B. Marsh next in line to the Prophet Joseph Smith, except for his apostasy which prevented his assension to be the Prophet. Thomas B. Marsh, McLellin and others thought to judge and over power the prophet of God. Thus was established the truth of the matter, that while the President of the Twelve holds the keys pertaining to the Twelve, he does not have power whereby to over through the prophet of God no more than did Aaron or Miriam when they complained against Moses in their attempt to usurp the power of the prophet of God (Numbers 12). And while Thomas B. Marsh did eventually repent and was again baptized into the Church, he was but a shadow of what he once was as supported by the hand of God as the President of the Twelve (Willford Woodruff, History, page 381).
D&C 112:19 Wherefore, whithersoever they shall send you, go ye, and I will be with you; and in whatsoever place ye shall proclaim my name an aeffectual door shall be opened unto you, that they may receive my word.
D&C 112:20 Whosoever areceiveth my word receiveth me, and whosoever receiveth me, receiveth those, the First Presidency, whom I have sent, whom I have made counselors for my name's sake unto you.

D&C 112:21 And again, I say unto you, that whosoever ye shall send in my name, by the voice of your brethren, the aTwelve, duly recommended and bauthorized by you, shall have power to open the door of my kingdom unto any nation whithersoever ye shall send them—
D&C 112:22 Inasmuch as they shall humble themselves before me, and abide in my word, and ahearken to the voice of my Spirit.

D&C 112:23 Verily, verily, I say unto you, adarkness covereth the earth, and gross darkness the minds of the people, and all flesh has come bcorrupt before my face.
D&C 112:24 Behold, avengeance cometh speedily upon the inhabitants of the earth, a day of wrath, a day of burning, a day of bdesolation, of cweeping, of mourning, and of lamentation; and as a whirlwind it shall come upon all the face of the earth, saith the Lord.

D&C 112:25 And upon my ahouse shall it bbegin, and from my house shall it go forth, saith the Lord;
D&C 112:26 First among those among you, saith the Lord, who have aprofessed to know my bname and have not cknown me, and have dblasphemed against me in the midst of my house, saith the Lord.

D&C 112:27 Therefore, see to it that ye trouble not yourselves concerning the affairs of my church ain this place, saith the Lord.
D&C 112:28 But apurify your hearts before me; and then bgo ye into all the world, and preach my gospel unto every creature who has not received it;
D&C 112:29 And he that abelieveth and is bbaptized shall be saved, and he that believeth not, and is not baptized, shall be cdamneda.

 29a he that believeth not, an is not baptized, shall be damned This seems harsh to the ears of those who do not understand the plan of redemption. Yet for a man to progress into heaven he must enter in at the gate. And that gate is baptism. And none may there enter but those who are properly baptized in the proper manner and by the proper authority. Strait and narrow is the way. And if a man does not become so baptized, his progress back to heaven is stopped at that gate. He does not enter nor does he progress there in. He is literally damned, stopped and he may not enter and continue on but by this gate and ordiance of baptism. The Bible as well states it to be so, "Except a man be born of the water and of the spirit, he cannot enter in to the kingdom of God." (John 3:5) And it this is not being damned then what is the meaning of being so stopped and held back from entering into God's Kingdom?
D&C 112:30 For unto you, the aTwelve, and those, the First Presidency, who are appointed with you to be your bcounselors and your leaders, is the cpower of this last priesthood given, for the last days and for the last time, in the which is the dispensation of the dfulness of times.
D&C 112:31 Which power you hold, in connection with all those who have received a adispensation at any time from the beginning of the creation;
D&C 112:32 For verily I say unto you, the akeys of the dispensation, which ye have received, have bcome down from the fathers, and last of all, being sent down from heaven unto you.

D&C 112:33 Verily I say unto you, behold how great is your calling. aCleanse your hearts and your garments, lest the blood of this generation be brequired at your hands.
D&C 112:34 Be faithful until I come, for I acome quickly; and my reward is with me to recompense every man according as his bwork shall be. I am Alpha and Omega. Amen.
