  12 ¶ If thou shalt hear say in one of thy cities, which the LORD thy God hath given thee to dwell there, saying,
  13 Certain men, the children of
aBelial, are gone out from among you, and have
bwithdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go
and serve other gods, which ye have not known;
  14 Then shalt thou inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you;
  15 Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that
city with the edge of the sword, destroying it
utterlya, and all that is
therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.

15a destroying it utterly It
may have seemed harsh for Israel to have destroyed all the people who had
inhabited the land before them, but the Lord here gives the same commandment
regarding any of the cities of Israel who may have gone after other gods as
well. It is a necessary policy in order to preserve a people and their
separate identity. Today, since the gospel is being taken to the world to
bless them, no longer is that commandment in place currently until all nations
of the earth have had an opportunity to hear that Gospel of Jesus Christ. And
then in the Second Coming of the Lord will such an act against the people who
have failed to have come unto Christ, and have chosen to still be corrupted
from him and his gospel, then they, the wicked will again come under the
edict of the Lord and they will be destoyred that only the righteous or more
righteous of the people remain during the Millennial Reign of the Lord and
do abide his presence in acceptance of him as our Lord and King.
