CHAPTER 11
Departing Israel authorized to ask for jewels and gold from their neighbours—The Lord promises to slay the firstborn in every Egyptian home—He puts difference between the Egyptians and Israel. |

1 AND the LORD said unto
Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt;
afterwards he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go,
he shall surely athrust you out hence
altogethera.
2 Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man aborrow of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, bjewels of silver, and jewels of gold. 3 And the LORD gave the people afavour in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh's servants, and in the sight of the people.

1a he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether All along Moses had been requesting of Pharaoh to merely allow the Israelites to leave to worship and make an offering unto their God and then return again. If Pharaoh had any respect and understanding of Israel and their God, Pharaoh would have understood that by their word, Israel would have been obligated to return, and thus they would. So untrusting was Pharaoh, so turned against the Hebrew people, that Pharaoh was totally hardened against them and would not believe even their simple pledge. The Lord knew this all along. And though it was the Lord's eventual intent that Israel go free, that is not what he had Moses ask for. It would be by Pharaoh's own decree that the Hebrews would be set free and this due to the plagues which esculated against Pharaoh in that Pharaoh would not show even the least bit of civility to the Hebrew people and their God to even allow the Hebrews the right to worship their God. The reason that the Hebrews had asked to removed such a distance from inhabited Egypt was because it would have been a personal affront to the Egyptians whose worship of the beasts that Israel would have been sacrificing in their religious offerings was punishable by Egyptian law if observed by an Egyptian to have occurred. Thus Israel was showing respect to Egyptian beliefs but Pharaoh showed none toward Israel and Israel's God. |

1 0 ~ F I R S T B O R NThe premise of Egyptian religious society was first established to be a similitude of that true religion and its priesthood of God. However, through the course of time much corruption and a multiplicity of gods of the earth did enter in to the Egyptian religion. As on studies Egyptian society and religion, therefore there is many lines of truth mixed in to their corrupted pagan religions of the days of Moses. One of the items retained in Egyptian society and religion was the signicance of the 'Firstborn' son in a family. When the Lord therefore sent this last plague it was daulistic in its significants. Just as God would sacrifice his Firstborn for the sins of the world, due to the continued disobedience of Pharaoh, the firstborn of every house in Egypt would die. |

4 And Moses said, Thus saith the LORD, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt:
5 And all the afirstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the bfirstborn of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts. 6 And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more.

7 But against any of the children of Israel shall not a
dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD
doth put a adifference between the Egyptians and Israel.
8 And all these thy servants shall come down unto me, and bow down themselves unto me, saying, Get thee out, and all the people that follow thee: and after that I will go out. And he went out from Pharaoh in a great aanger.

9 And the LORD said unto Moses, Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you; that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.
10 And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh: aand the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go out of his land. |
