the profane place Of the temple, Josephus states (war, lib. vi.,
c. 14) that there was a wall built before the entrance of the sanctuary or
temple proper, on which were posts and inscriptions fixed containing in
Latin and Greek the laws of purity of those that entered the temple and
forbidding all 'strangers' from entering. Thus the 'profane place' was like
the general public places of Salt Lake's temple square as opposed to that
which pertains to the temple itself.
