15 ¶ And I gathered them together to the
rivera that runneth to Ahava; and
there abode we in tents three days: and I viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi.
16 Then sent I for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah,
and for Elnathan, and for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for
Zechariah, and for aMeshullam, chief men; also for Joiarib,
and for Elnathan, men of understanding.
17 And I sent them with commandment unto Iddo the chief at the place Casiphia, and I told them what they should say unto Iddo, and to his brethren the Nethinims, at the place Casiphia, that they should bring unto us ministers for the house of our God.

15a I gathered them together to the
river Ezra was a scribe and a scriptural historian, a keeper of the
records of the people. At this point history has caught up to Ezra. In the
last chapter he was called to perform a duty. Now here in the first persons
Ezra records a part of the gathering of the people together for travel which
his called upon duty set forth for him to do. Ezra will continue his history
down to and apparently to include those event of Nehemaih and even Zecahriah
and others. As stated that block of history he is credited as compiliing and
writing includes Chronicles, Ezra and Nehemiah and perhaps other records as
well.
