A HARMONY OF THE GOSPELS
VI. Jesus' 34th Year of Visitations and Ministry to the Apostles and Church of Jerusalem

It is with the aid of the Book of Mormon that we are able to present that Jesus spent much of his 34th year, that is after his resurrection, in ministering to and visiting as needed with those of the early Christian Chruch in Jerusalem, with the Apostles and saints of the Chruch there. Thus as this administration of post resurrection occurs beginning with Jesus' resurrection, there is some overlap with the previous section which span's Jesus' last week of life including his suffering in Genthsemane, his death and his resurrection.

Now, as we know, over the span of days of Jesus' death and entombment, in the Americas stratrophic destruction was occuring over a three day period of darkness. The Book of Mormon record states that this destruction began at the beginning of the 34th year after the signs of Jesus' birth, in the first month, on the fourth day of the month. This wold correlated on the Jewish/Israelite calendar to be that very time of the Passover of Jesus' death and establishes that the 'Nephites' of the Americas were still using the Hebrew callendar, the first month being Abib or Nisan. Since Jesus was born during this very time, April 6th, it would have marked his 34th birthday as we count birthdays or the end of his 33rd full year of life. Now the three days of destruction in America according to the Book of Mormon would then match with the three days of Christ's death and his time his body was in the tomb. (3 Nephi 8 particularly verse 5 and so forth)

Now the people in American would not hear the Lord's voice coming out of heaven until after the three days of destruction after the earthquakes and various other destructive forces had wound down and the darkness of three days was taken from off the land. What this voice of the Lord from Heaven said unto the people is found in the latter part of 3 Nephi 8 and 3 Nephi 9. And it would have been heard just after the endings of the destruction in that first month of Abib. After the voice was first heard and its initial messages, then there was many hours of silence in the land. But then the voice is heard again in 3 Nephi 10 until verse 17. Again the voice from heaven occurred just after the end of the destruction. But the quick read student of the Book of Mormon, being all primed for Jesus to next appear often seems to forget in their excitement that Mormon's abridgment is a highly condensed account and they merely read over the verse 18 statement of 'it came to pass that in the ending of 34 year is were Mormon picks up his narative next. A whole year, the year of 34 gone, next.

And in 3 Nephi 10:18 Mormon explains that at the end of the year is when he will next show the great favors of the Lord unto the people of Nephi. And that is 'soon after the ascension of Christ into heaven' Christ did then manifest himself, that is visit those in America. This gives the corresponding timeline of Christ's post resurrection ministry unto those of Jerusalem to be from the time of his resurrection to and through basically the whole of that 34th year until his eventual final ascension into heaven at the end of that 34th year. Not that Jesus was with them all of the time, but that he would come and visit and manifest himself to them from time to time, in Jerusalem, in Galilee, and so forth until at the end of the year he would, likely in conjunction with the next near time of the following passever, lead the apostles out to Bethany to witness his final asension as recorded in the book of Acts 1:9.

And now, it is after that ascension in Jerusalem at the end of the 34th year that the Lord will next come to appear to the Nephites who are gathered to the temple of Bountiful. And again, this is likely that time of annual gathering unto the temple for the event of the Passover. Remember the temple at the city of Zarahemla would likely have been burned and destroyed as Zarahemla was destroyed with fire. But the temple at Bountiful survived and the Nephites there had had a year's time of repairing the land, city and temple of Bountiful. So from the time that the people of the Americas heard the voice of the Lord God out of heaven, it had been nearly a year before the Lord would finally come to visit the people of America beginning at the temple of Bountiful, during that next Passover time. This will be covered in more detail in the next major section of the fifth gospel, the book of 3 Nephi. But first well windup with the 34th year of Christ Ministry in Jerusalem, that year after his resurrection he spent ministering to the people there after his death.

MATTHEW MARK LUKE JOHN
First Day: Earthquake, Angels Open Tomb ~ Near Jerusalem
28: 1-2

1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.

24: 1-2

Mary Magdalene Comes to the Tomb ~ Near Jerusalem
Blending the Gospels at the Tomb
Now it is no easy task to blend the four gospels together from 4 various account perspectives, but in so doing a real life perspective may be added. Often an account singles out one person and tells an account centered about her and while others are present and participant, it is but the one who is reported upon and the reader gains a false perspective as if it were only that single person who was present. So it is with John's account which seems to bring only Mary Magdalene alone to the tomb. Certainly Mary Magdalene would not venture alone but she was accompanied by others. Why John singles out Mary Magdalene in such a spotlight is worthy of discussion and consideraton. Only one women would warrent such respect of perspective even above the Mother of Jesus, and that would be the wife of the man. Perhaps in this John had answered that aged question which gospel principle unto exaltation but must presume, that Christ was indeed a married man. When one focuses upon one such individual purposefully, all others but melt away from view though they are there and present. Such is John's purposefully myopic account. Yet there is a 'hiden key' within John's account which rectifies it with the others. In the second verse of John 20:2 the little pronoun 'we' is used expelling all doubt that Mary was not alone in her venture but as the other accounts do so state, she had gone there with other women. Thus she states, 'we know not where they have laid him'. This inclusive plural pronoun to the careful reader does tell all, that John has so purposefully singled out Mary Magdalene as the single most important person concerning who his account is all about despite the presences of a number of others which the other accounts include by name thus diminishing in to the crowd what John had exalted by his singular myopic vision of focus. If one will but read line by line from left to right while ignoring the column divisions, one may reunite the emphasis of the one with the whole of the group story again.
Matthew 28: 2-8

2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.

5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
8 And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.

Mark 16: 1-4
1 And when the sabbath was past,

Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.

3 And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?
4 And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.
Mark 16: 5-8
5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.
6 And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.
7 But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.
8 And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid.

Now we must consider the state of affairs at this time of the death of Jesus and the concept of 'information overload'. In Mark's account it reports that the angel reminded the women who visited the tomb (Mark 16:7 & Matthew 28:7) that after the Passover period, as usual, they were to return to Galilee and that Jesus who had risen would come to see them there. Eventually the apostle and the women do return to their homes in Galilee and that is where Peter decides that he is going to go fishing, that being his normal profession of sustaining his family. But what the angel reminds the women to do common sense wise in not what the apostles and even perhaps some of them do immediately. As for Mary particularly, she was told to go tell Peter and John, and the gospel record reports that they came running to the tomb. Later that very day Jesus would walk and be with two of them on the road to Emmaus and in the evening he'd appear unto the '11' in the upper room where they had gathered. Evenually, particularly for the women's benefit, they were to return to their homes in Galilee and they would remember and recall that this not only Jesus told them to do but that the angel also reminded the women that this was the common sense thing to do. Perhap an 'information overload' to the critical reconciler's of the Gospels Harmony, but all in all the simple understandable reminder to 'go home' and Jesus who was still alive, now being resurrected, would visit them there, which he did according to the record of John. In Mary's [Magdalene] report to Peter and John, she is certainly more personally worried about where her Lord's body is than the reminder to 'go home' to Galilee.

Peter and John run to the tomb ~ Near Jerusalem

24: 12;

12 Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.
24: 24

24 And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
20: 3-10
3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.
5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
“Woman, why weepest thou?” ~ Near Jerusalem
Implied in John's account order is that as Peter and John ran to the tomb, Mary did again follow after them. And when Peter and John again left the tomb, finding it empty, Mary did linger longer standing without the tomb weeping for her reported concern had not been resolved by the coming of Peter and John to the tomb. "Where have they laid him?" Was her concern. "Where have they taken my Lord?" And you can almost hear her thoughts as to, 'What will they do to him next?' 20: 11-13
11 ¶ But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.

16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

Jesus Appears to Two Disciples ~ Emmaus

16: 12

12 ¶ After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.
24: 13-32

13 ¶ And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.
14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
17 And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?
18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass therein these days?
19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
  22 Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;
23 And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.
24 And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
28 And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
29 But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

Evening: Jesus appears to disciples ~ Jerusalem

16: 14

Why Did Jesus Eat
Before the Apostles?

They thought he was only a spirit, but he was a resurrected man having flesh and bones. And as a further witness to them that it was bodily he himself, he did particularly eat meat with them.
24: 36-49

36 ¶ And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?
42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.
43 And he took it, and did eat before them.
44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
49 ¶ And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
20: 19-23

19 ¶ Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

Hear Ye, Who Refuse to Believe or Cast Out the Truth

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is a man today as much and more than he was in life. He is a resurrected being of flesh and bones and not a spirit or 'ghost' only. And that is his own faithful witness unto us, that we too may and will be raised again from the grave, having restored to us our body of flesh and bone to life again never to die again! Think not as the Saducees that our God is now but a spirit only and fail to grasp the truth of the resurrection, that the resurrection is unto the restoring to the spirit separated from the body of the grave in death, will rise again that body from the dust of the earth to once again and forever to be an embodied spirit housed by physical flesh and bones. It is his gift to us of literal resurrection.

20: 24-25

24 ¶ But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
Eight Days Later: With Thomas ~ Jerusalem

20: 26-29

26 ¶ And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

As John States, Many Things Jesus Did Are Not Written in the Gospel Record

'And Many Other Signs Truly Did Jesus In The Presence Of His Disciples Which Are Not Written In This Book'

20: 30-31

30 ¶ And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
Peter: “I go a fishing” ~ Sea of Galilee

Sea of Galilee is the same as the Sea or Lake of Tiberias
(Tiberias being a significant city upon the west shore after which the Lake was often called.)

"Lovest Thou Me More Than These?"
21: 1-19

1 After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.
2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.
3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.
4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
5 Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.
6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.
7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
8 And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.
9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.
10 Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.
11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.
12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.
13 Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.
14 This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.
15 ¶ So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?
24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.
25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
3 Ne. 28: 6;
6 And he said unto them: Behold, I know your thoughts, and ye have desired the thing which John, my beloved, who was with me in my ministry, before that I was lifted up by the Jews, desired of me.

D&C 7
Revelation given to Joseph Smith the Prophet, and Oliver Cowdery, at Harmony, Pennsylvania, April, 1829, when they inquired through the Urim and Thummim as to whether John, the beloved disciple, tarried in the flesh or had died. The revelation is the translated version of the record made on parchment by John and hidden up by himself. See History of the Church, vol. 1, pp. 35, 36.

D&C 7:1 And the Lord said unto me: John, my beloved, what desireth thou? For if you shall ask what you will, it shall be granted unto you.

D&C 7:2 And I said unto him: Lord, give unto me power over death, that I may live and bring souls unto thee.

D&C 7:3 And the Lord said unto me: Verily, verily, I say unto thee, because thou desirest this thou shalt tarry until I come in my glory, and shalt prophesy before nations, kindreds, tongues and people.

D&C 7:4 And for this cause the Lord said unto Peter: If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? For he desired of me that he might bring souls unto me, but thou desiredst that thou mightest speedily come unto me in my kingdom.

D&C 7:5 I say unto thee, Peter, this was a good desire; but my beloved has desired that he might do more, or a greater work yet among men than what he has before done.

D&C 7:6 Yea, he has undertaken a greater work; therefore I will make him as flaming fire and a ministering angel; he shall minister for those who shall be heirs of salvation who dwell on the earth.

D&C 7:7 And I will make thee to minister for him and for thy brother James; and unto you three I will give this power and the keys of this ministry until I come.

D&C 7:8 Verily I say unto you, ye shall both have according to your desires, for ye both joy in that which ye have desired.

The Great Commision to the Twelve ~ A Mountain of Galilee
28: 16-20

16 ¶ Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 ¶ Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
16: 15-18

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
  17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them: they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Morm. 9: 22-24
22 For behold, thus said Jesus Christ, the Son of God, unto his disciples who should tarry, yea, and also to all his disciples, in the hearing of the multitude: Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature;

23 And he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned;

24 And these signs shall follow them that believe--in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover;

After stating the person's full name the LDS Baptismal prayer follows that commission of Jesus Christ as recorded in Matthew chapter 28 by saying, "[full name] having been commissioned of Jesus Christ, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen" ~ D&C 20:73

Creed of Bishop Eusebius of Caesarea

As a part of the original Nicene council creed of Bishop Eusebius of Caesarea as first approved by the Emperor and council as a whole (not the 'criminally' altered one edited and confounded by designing 'men', Bishop Eusebius included Jesus' commission as recorded in Matthew 28:19. This is the 'Origianlly Approved' Creed of Bishop Eusebius at Nicaea:

We believe in One God, the Father Almighty, the Maker of all things visible and invisible.
And in One Lord Jesus Christ, the Word of God, God from God, Light from Light, Life from Life, Son Only-begotten, first born of every creature, before all the ages, begotten from the Father, by whom also all things were made; who for our salvation was made flesh, and lived amoung men, and suffered, and rose again the third day, and ascended to the Father, and will come again in glory to judge quick and dead.
    And we believe in One Holy Ghost;
believing each of These to be and to exist, the Father truly Father, and the Son truly Son, and the Holy Ghost truly Holy Ghost, as also our Lord, sending forth His disciples for the preaching, said, Go, teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

This Creed would be acceptable doctrine by the LDS Church in terms of the true of the Godhead as taught by Bishop Eusebius in his Ecclessastical History of the Church, Book 1, Chapters 2-3 without any further commentary and interpretations byf historical commentators and 'doctors' of various religious persuations.

Ascension, Proclamation ~ Near Jerusalem
16: 19-20

19 ¶ So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
24: 50-53

50 ¶ And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:
53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
Just as Stephen would see Jesus and the Father in vision (Acts 7:54-60) and was prophesied by David in the Old Testament (Psalm 110), Jesus took his rightful place and position at the right hand of God the Father.

Here Peter's view via Mark is the more gospel oriented view of the commision of the Apostles to take the Gospel into all the world, while Luke's telling is a more immediate account as he does but continue he record in the book of Acts.

Ye Men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven?
This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. ~ Acts 1:11

Addendum
Time Duration of Jesus' 34th Year of His Post Resurrection Ministry in Jerusalem Arena

For the time of Christ's 34th year of Visitation and Ministry unto the earth, we turn to the Book of Mormon record as recorded in the two column span at the right. And then we do also complete the New Testament record with his ascension into heaven, his last witnessed act in the Jerusalem arena before he begins his Visitations and Ministry to the 'Nephites', that is his followers in the Americas. Theb is given the scripture from Acts in the fourth column to the right which gives the account of Jesus' ascension into heaven.

Now as given in the Book of Mormon 3 Nephi 8 - 10, the time of Jesus' death is of the first month of the year, Abib or Nisan according to the Jewish Hebrew calendar, which many not parallel the Nephite calendar other than that each such calendar begins in the spring of the year rather than the winter as does the common calendar of to day, that first month being January. That is the three days of destruction and darkness related to Jesus' Curcifixion and Death was upon the Nephite calendar the forth, fifth and sixth days of the month in America, while such was the same as the three ending days of 'Friday-Sunday' of the passover week in the Jerusalem arena in the first month of Abib or Nisan there.

Then the Book of Mormon in 3 Nephi 10 points out that from that first month and forth day beginning of the destruction and 3 days of darkness, the full of the 34th year elapses until the end thereof when it would finally come to pass soon after the ascension in Jerusalem that Jesus would then appear, visit and minister unto his followers in America. This would extend Jesus' ministry in the Jerusalem to approximately the whole of the 34 year from the time of his resurrection and first appearances to the apostles on that first 'Sunday' on through his various appearances and administrations unto them including his appearance and visitation to them upon the shore of the sea of Galilee in which he reminds Peter and the apostles, who with him, had gone fishing, to come back to the greater work of feeding his sheep; and then also thus on to those final days back in Jerusalem when they went out to the mount of Olivet from which he then finally ascended in to heaven from there view for the last time. And that last even, of the ascension, according to the Book of Mormon, did take place in the end of that year of resurrected administration of the Lord and his various visits and meetings with them during the time of that resurrection year.

BOOK OF MORMON, 3 NEPHI
CHAPTER 8: The three days of tempests, earthquakes, fires, whirlwinds, physical upheavals and etcetera, which attest to the crucifixion and death of Christ when many people were destroyed and darkness covered the land for the three days while Chirst lay in the tomb. The time according to the Nephite (Israelite related 'spring' beginning) calander commencing in the first month of the fourth day of that month.

1 AND now it came to pass that according to our record, and we know our record to be true, for behold, it was a just man who did keep the record—for he truly did many miracles in the name of Jesus; and there was not any man who could do a miracle in the name of Jesus save he were cleansed every whit from his iniquity—
 2 And now it came to pass, if there was no mistake made by this man in the reckoning of our time, the thirty and third year had passed away;
3 And the people began to look with great earnestness for the sign which had been given by the prophet Samuel, the Lamanite, yea, for the time that there should be darkness for the space of three days over the face of the land.
4 And there began to be great doubtings and disputations among the people, notwithstanding so many signs had been given.
5 And it came to pass in the thirty and fourth year, in the first month, on the fourth day of the month, there arose a great storm, such an one as never had been known in all the land.
6 And there was also a great and terrible tempest; and there was terrible thunder, insomuch that it did shake the whole earth as if it was about to divide asunder.
. . . [And the record continues to given the account of the destruction and the three days of darkness, and the events which followed] . . .

CHAPTER 10: . . .
18 And it came to pass that in the ending of the thirty and fourth year, behold, I will show unto you that the people of Nephi who were spared, and also those who had been called Lamanites, who had been spared, did have great favors shown unto them, and great blessings poured out upon their heads, insomuch that soon after the ascension of Christ into heaven he did truly manisfest himself unto them—
19 Showing his body unto them, and ministering unto them; and an account of his ministery shall be given hereafter. Therefore for this time I make an end of my sayings.

CHAPTERS 11 TO 26 INCLUSIVE: Jesus Christ did show himself unto the people of Nephi, as the multitude were gathered together in the land Bountiful, and did minister unto them; and on this wise did he show himself unto them. — [See the account of Jesus' visitations and ministry to his people in America, which followed after his Visitations and Ministry to the members of the early church in the Jerusalem arena which is given in the next section of this chronology and harmony of the 'Gospels of the Scriptures now also to include that which is recorded in the 'Gospel of 3 Nephi of the Book of Mormon.]

THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES
CHAPTER 1: Jesus ministers for 'forty days'—being interpreted as for a great many days—after his resurrection and prior to his eventual final ascension into heaven before the very eyes of his apostles.

1 THE former treatise have I made [the Gospel of Luke], O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
2 Until the day which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty day [a great number of days], and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom of Israel?
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witness unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
 10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.

[And soforth begins the record of the Acts of the Apostles of Jesus Christ as written and recorded by Luke.]
