3 Wherefore Adoni-zedek king of
Jerusalema sent unto Hoham king of
Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and
unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,
4 Come up unto me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.
5 Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.

3a Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem
Salem or Jerusalem was the city and center of the great highpriest Mechizedek
to whom Abraham had paid tithes. Of course Melchizedek and his righteous
people had been taken up like unto the city of Enoch. But it would appear that
a residual remained of those fringe associated people and though as sure
corruption of the truth of god and true religion, still the king of Jerusalem
did bear one of the names of the Lord God Jehovah. That is 'Adoni-zedek' meaning
Lord of righteousness. This would distantly associate these people with the
once righteous people of Melchizedek though now removed and fallen into the
gross sin of pagan worship. This would be a like fate of Israel and even
those of Jerusalem in the days of Zedekiah. The Jews themselves had become a
corruption and deserving of destruction, which did occur at the end of the
reign of King Zedekiah and the remnant or residual of the Jews were taken
captive to Babylon.
