1 THEN Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.
2 And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people that
are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into
their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own
hand hath saved mea.
3 Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the
people, saying, Whosoever is afearful and afraid,
let him return and depart early from bmount Gilead. And
there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten
thousand.

2a Mine own hand hath saved me.
Often we do not recognize what the Lord has done for us because of our own
pride in ourselves. Thus we take credit unto ourselves for what the Lord has
done for us. This is the case wherein 'pride' begins to enter in and the
faith and acceptance and recognition of the Lord and what he does and has
done for us is lacking. And when we have turned from the Lord and have gone
our own way thinking it is us who have done such and such that has given us
the benefit, then does the Lord remove from us the blessing and we do fall.
And the cycle begins again wherein we must humble ourselves before the Lord
and recognize his hand in all things to our good and benefit.
