1 AND the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto Aaron, and unto his sons, and unto all the children of Israel, and say unto them; This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, saying,
3 What man soever there be of the house of Israel, that killeth an ox, or lamb, or goat, in the camp, or that killeth it out of the camp,
4 And bringeth it not unto the door of the
atabernacle of the congregation, to offer an offering unto
the LORD before the tabernacle of the LORD; blood shall be imputed unto that
man; he hath shed blood; and that man shall be cut off from among his
people:
5 To the end that the children of Israel may
bring their sacrificesa, which they
offer in the open field, even that they may
bring them unto the LORD, unto the door of the tabernacle of the
congregation, unto the priest, and offer them for peace
aofferings unto the LORD.

5a To the end that the children of Israel
may bring their sacrifices In a populated area as was the camp of
Israel, it would have been chaos to have animal offerings taking place every
where about the camp, also in cities it would be prohibitive. The Lord allowed
offerings and sacrifices outside of the temple or tabernacle which were more
than three days journey from such an edifice. Thus Lehi traveled three days
in the wilderness beyond that place in Timnah where sacrifice was offered
and thus Nephi points out that Lehi was within the law to offer sacrifice in
the wilderness of the valley of Lemuel. But the Lord restricted the offerings
of Israel to the tabernacle in the wilderness and in temple sites such as
Jerusalem that they might specifically be offered by the Levites according to
the law in the temple of the Lord to the end of the Lord's purpose in them.
