CHAPTER 6
People first make restitution for sin, then offer a trespass offering, and
thereby gain forgiveness, through atonement made by priests.
|
The course of repentance is this, first the people are to make restitution
for sin, then one offers an offering before the Lord which is today a contrite
spirit and a broken heart, and that 'offering' is completed as part of a
priesthood ordinance which today is the sacrament, and by that priesthood
ordinance according to the power and authorization of the Lord thereby
forgiveness is gained, and this through the atonement made by the great high
priest. The Levitical priest of the temple was the symbolic similitude of
the Great High Priest Jesus Christ.

1 AND the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 If a soul sin, and commit a trespass against the
LORD, and alie unto his neighbour in that which was
delivered him to keep, or in fellowship, or in a thing taken away by
violence, or hath deceived his neighbour;
3 Or have found that which was lost, and lieth
concerning ita, and sweareth
falsely; in any of all these that a man doeth, sinning therein:
|
3a have found that which was lost, and
lieth concerning it That doctrine taught by that old familiar
saying of 'finders keepers, losers weepers' is a false doctrine. When a thing
is found, one is under an obligation to he that has lost it to restore it to
him if one can so find the owner thereof. And they are not to lie concerning
it, if it is inquired about, but one is under obligation to discover and
support the truth of the matter as to whose it is.
