7 But when the congregation is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm.
8 And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow with
the atrumpets; and they shall be to you for an
ordinance for ever throughout your
generationsa.

8a they shall be to you for an ordinance
for ever throughout your generations The blowing of the silver
trumpets is not the same as the blowing of the shofar, which is the horn of
an animal, a ram's horn. The two silver trumpets are known as the
'hazozarahs'. They are used for the calling together the princes and the
congregation and used in connecion to sounding the alarms of warning. Also
these trumpets are blown upon new moon, high days and at sacrifices. Somewhat
connected and confused with the blowing of the shofar, in the latter days in
connection with the LDS Church, the angel Moroni is seen blowing such a
trumpet which is a symbol of the bring forth of the everlasting gospel to
preach to the earth. This parallels Matthew Henry's concept of what the
blowing of the trumpets represent, 'the preaching of the gospel'. These
trumpets were also sounded when going into battle and seeking the Lord's
deliverance. They were certainly sounded as a part of the march about Jericho.
