CHAPTER 29
Sacrifices to be offered during seventh month, including at feast of
trumpets, and at feast of tabernacles.
|
Sacrifices to be offered, the feasts to be kept, the holy convocations or
meetings of the congregation to be held along with a solomn assembly to be
kept; the feast of trumpets, the day of atonement and the feast(s) of the
tabernacles all fall in the seventh month as it is a very significant month
of remembrance before the Lord.

A Day of Blowing the Trumpets
Rosh Hashanah: Literally means 'head of the
year' and is the Jewish New Year. It is the High Holy Days or Yamim Nora'im
meaning 'Days of Awe'. It is 'celebrated' on the first two days of Tishrei,
the seventh month of the current Hebrew calendar. It is 'Yom Teru'ah or a
day of sounding the Shofar or trumpet. These first two days are followed by
a third day dedicated to fasting, the Fast of Gedaliah. The religious
significance in Jewish thought is that Rosh Hashanah is the most important
day on which all the inhabitants of the world do pass for judgment before the
Creator. It is held that 'three books of account' are opened on Rosh Hashanah
wherein the fate of the 'wicked', the 'righteous' and an 'intermediate class'
are recorded. There seems to be a parallel here between the Celestial,
Terestrial and Telestial judgments.

1a in the seventh month The
seventh month of the 'Jewish' calendar is Tishri and it is the 'busiest' time
of the year for Jewish 'holidays'. Holidays is not as we would consider a
holiday for these are days of religious remembrances or of sacrifice, holy
meetings and religious 'remembrances. The lunar governed month of Tishri will
fall in the months of September and October or about the days of our
semi-annual conferences in the LDS church. The 'High Holidays' are Rosh
Hashanah, the sounding of the trumpets beginning on the first day of the month
and Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement occuring on the tenth day of the month.
The longest of the holidays or 'Holy-Days' is Sukkot or the feasts of the
tabernacles which begins on the fifteenth and run for eight/nine days ending
on the twenty second/third. There is a total of 13 days of special religious
significance, on 7 of them no work is to be permitted.
