             CHAPTER 7

Princes of Israel make offerings for tabernacle at its dedication—The Lord speaks to Moses from mercy seat, between the cherubim, upon the ark.

 1 AND it came to pass on the day that Moses had fully aset up the tabernaclea, and had anointed it, and sanctified it, and all the instruments thereof, both the altar and all the vessels thereof, and had anointed them, and sanctified them;
2 That the princes of Israel, aheads of the house of their fathers, who were the princes of the tribes, and were over them that were numbered, offered:
3 And they brought their offering before the LORD, six covered awagons, and twelve oxen; a wagon for two of the princes, and for each one an ox: and they brought them before the tabernacle.
1a on the day that Moses had fully set up the tabernacle It did take the remainder of the first year of the children of Israel's time in the wilderness, after their escape from Egypt, before the production of the tabernacle of the Lord was complete. The Biblical record states, 'in the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, that the tabernacle was reared up.' (Ex. 40:17) Thus all that occured relative to this event was in the beginning of the years of the children of Israel's 40 years of wandering in the desert. And thus all these appointed 'princes of the tribes' would have passed on, died, and NOT have entered into the promised land with Joshua. Their children only would have so dated to the years in the wilderness and have accompanied such as Joshua and Caleb into the promised land. And thus Joshau and Caleb were not so appointed or numbered among the princes of the tribes though they did take part in the scouting party which early in the wandering years did survey the land before the children of Israel bulked and refused to go into the land at that time.
4 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
5 Take it of them, that they may be to do the service of the atabernacle of the congregation; and thou shalt give them unto the Levites, to every man according to his service.
6 And Moses took the wagons and the oxen, and gave them unto the Levites.
7 Two wagons and four oxen he gave unto the sons of Gershon, according to their service:
8 And four wagons and eight oxen he gave unto the sons of Merari, according unto their service, under the hand of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.
9 But unto the sons of Kohath he gave none: because the service of the sanctuary belonging unto them was that they should bear upon their shoulders.
10 ¶ And the princes offered for dedicating of the altar in the day that it was anointeda, even the princes offered their offering before the altar.
11 And the LORD said unto Moses, They shall offer their offering, aeach prince on his day, for the dedicating of the altar.
10a the princes offered for dedicating of the altar in the day that it was dedicated Thus in the beginning of the second year, just one year past of the Egyptian exodus, were the princes of the tribe in place and offering sacrifice before the newly constructed tabernacle and the altar thereof. Therefore we must consider that they were not only adult men but at least of thirty or older and the prime elder of each of the tribes. They had been born and raised in Egypt unto manhood, and they would be totally familiar with the ways of the Egyptians.

Elishama of Ephraim

The prince of the tribe of Ephraim is he to and through whom the birthright was kept of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph and Ephraim. Depending on just how 1 Chronicles 7:20-27 is read there may be ancestors between *Tahan and Ephraim which may include such as Telah, Resheph and/or Rephah, and even Beriah. Also it may be presumed that that Ephrathite family of Elimelech found in the Book of Ruth was so thence descended from Joshua and of that birthright line, he being the 'legal and righful' Ephraimite ancestor to such as Obed, King David, and even Jesus Christ (See Messiah ben David ~ Messiah ben Joseph).

It is of added interest to so compare Elishama's position with that of Nahshon of the Jews. Both were the chief prince of their tribe and most certainly contempories and likely of the same generation. Elishama was the father of Nun and Nun was the father of Joshua. Neither Elishama or Nun were allowed to enter into the land of promise as they were of the generation of the children of Israel who had been born and raised in Egypt. Nun would have been comparative to such sons of Nahshon who also were born and raised in Egypt and were not allowed to enter the land of promise.* Yet Salmon, son of Nahshon was apparently allowed to enter the land of promise according to the genealogy of Boaz (Ruth 4:18-22). Now according to Matthew's genealogy, Salmon supposedly begat Boaz of Rachab/Rahab, the 'innkeeper' of Jericho who aided in the overthrown of that city. As such, as per Rahab's child baring years, this would place Boaz to be born in the years of the first judges of Israel at the latest which does not seem likely in reality. Perhaps a 'son' of Salmon married a daughter of Rahab, thus placing both Salmon and Rahab in Christ's ancestry, though not married to each other other than both Rahab and Salmon being 'grandparents'? After all neither the Book of Ruth nor Mathew's genealogy seems to be without 'missing' generation(s).

*[Note: In a parallel analysis between the family of Judah and Ephraim, Nahshon, the prince of Judah, who offered on the first day, and Elishama, the prince of Ephraim, who offered on the seventh day, would be of the same generation. Then one might presume that Nahshon's son Salmon would be of the same geration as Elishama's son Nun, both also being born and raised in Egypt and supposedly therefore neither allowed to enter the land of promise. Even if one moves to the next generation of Ephraim, Nun's son Joshua, in allowing that parallel with Salmon, Joshua was only one of two children of Israel of his generation to be allowed into the land of promise with Caleb of Judah being the other. And in that analysis, again Salmon would not have been allowed into the land of promise. Therefore there is ground for logical analysis to dismiss Salmon's proposed marriage to Rahab, presuming Salmon never entered the land of promise to even meet Rahab of Jericho. And here we are again to the only left possible conclusion that while Salmon and Rahab may have been ancesters of Boaz, they may well have been grandparents, not married to each other, yet the respective son of Salmon and daughter of Rahab could be the more immediate parents of Boaz with a generation or so being missed out of the recorded genealogy.]

48 ¶ On the seventh day Elishama the son of Ammihud, prince of the children of Ephraim, offered:

84 This was the dedication of the altar, in the day when it was anointed, by the aprinces of Israel: twelve chargers of silver, twelve silver bowls, twelve spoons of gold:
85 Each charger of silver weighing an hundred and thirty shekels, each bowl seventy: all the silver vessels weighed two thousand and four hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary:
86 The golden spoons were twelve, full of incense, weighing ten shekels apiece, after the shekel of the sanctuary: all the gold of the spoons was an hundred and twenty shekels.

89 And when Moses was gone into the tabernacle of the congregation to speak with him, then he heard the voice of one aspeaking unto him from off the mercy seat that was upon the ark of testimony, from between the two bcherubims: and he spake unto him.
