Old Testament Commentary - Psalms 100

by Don R. Hender

HERE is a psalm, a hymn, which might well be an obvious pronouncement of prophetic scripture lost from the pages of the Bible. If one considers the myopic narrow view of the Jews of the 'sons of Abraham' so limiting themselves to be 'the elete promised people of the Lord', then this hymn can be seen to be one which speaks of that latter-day when all the nations and 'lands' of the earth do embrace the Lord. This then being the time of the promised latter-days when the gospel of Christ flows to all the world and all the lands of the earth do rejoyce in the Lord.

       CHAPTER 100

A Psalm of praise—Serve the Lord with gladness, all ye his people—Be thankful unto him and bless his name.

A Psalm of praise
1 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye landsa.
2 Serve the LORD with agladness: come before his presence with bsinging.
1a all ye lands Opposed to the Jewish view of the land of the Jews being the central promised land of God and God's people is the latter-day perspective which takes the gospel of Jesus Christ into every nation, kindred, tongue and people. This particular prophetice hymnal reference can only seem to reflect the latter-day experience when the gospel is taken to 'all the lands' of the earth. In such case, this is an Old Testament' prophetic reference to the latter-day kingdom of God and it going forth into all the world. Which prophet of orgin first pinned the words is not know. Only in these preserved verses of the hymns of ancient Israel is the words of the prophet preserved in this song of praise of the latter-days when the gospel goes forth to all the earth and not just to the Jews of Jerusalem.
3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath amade us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the bsheep of his pasture.
4 Enter into his gates with athanksgiving, and into his bcourts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
