       CHAPTER 12

David decries flattering lips and proud tongues—He says: The words of the Lord are pure words.

To the chief Musician upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David>
1 HELP, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.
2 They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a adouble heart do they speak.
3 The LORD shall cut off all aflattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud thingsa:
3a the tongue that speaketh proud things These 'proud things' are those of the 'false pride' of man who considered it is of himself that he is and prevails. He takes false pride in accomplishment of those things he could not do without the attending gifts and grace of God. It is vanity to think that the world and the things thereof of man's to use and get gain of without any consideration give to God and all credit being taken or given to the hand of man. Thus 'flattering lips' are those which speak things which honor men as though that which is done is accomplish solely upon the efforts of man and not given and governed by God. We are to recognize the hand of God in all things and not to take pride in self and what the hand of man does or is for he is nothing without the governing hand of God who had created him, gives him his daily breath as well as bread, and without whom man is nothing and can do nothing.
4 Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?
5 For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.
6 The awords of the LORD are bpure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
8 The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.
