       CHAPTER 57

David pleads for mercy and acclaims the glory and exaltation of God.

To the dhief Musician, Al-taschith, Michtam of David, when he fled from Saul in the cave.
BE merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy awings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.
I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me.
He shall send from heaven, and save me from the reproach of him that would swallow me up. Selah. God shall send forth his mercy and his truth.
My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose ateeth are spears and arrows, and their btongue a sharp csword.
Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; let thy glory be above all the earth.
They have prepared a anet for my steps; my soul is bowed down: they have bdigged a cpit before me, into the midst whereof they are fallen themselves. Selah.
My heart is afixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will bsing and give praise.
Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.
I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto thee among the nations.
For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds.
Be thou exalted, O Goda, above the heavens: let thy glory be above all the earth.
a Be thou esalted, O God It is interesting to comtemplate in just which text and tense this statement is to be taken. In the prophetic perfect is would speak of that which is to come as though it is already. Certainly Jesus Christ as Jehovah of the Old Testament was yet a Spirit God before his birth upon the earth and his becoming that fully exalted God of the Celestial realm with a body of flesh and bone to fully there sit at the righthand of God the Father of Spirits was yet future to be. Even still the final judgment of his kingdom and its exaltation is yet future. But certainly in the sense of being God, Jehovah was so already exalted and not just becoming. Yet whether King David had ad comprehension of all this, was speaking from some prophetic scriptural reference or just what his frame of reference was is not had. Certainly Jehovah was even then considered a God of glory and exalted above the earth, but 'above the heavens' which he did make under the direction of the Father leaks into another realm and possible further meaning.
