Ann Deeble Rogers married Ricard Clemens on 20 Dec 1810 in Quethiock. Christiana Deeble Rogers married Joseph Moon Jr. of High Clicker on 2 Feb 1813 in Quethiock. 2 Jane Ann Clemens was daughter of Richard Clemens and Ann Deeble Rogers of St Keyne. While she married Thomas Congdon in the District of Stoke Damerel, Devon, they returned to St Keyne where their first daughter, Ann Deeble Congdon, was born. That duaghter was named after her grandmother Ann Deeble Rogers. 3 The full name of Susan Congdon is Susan Clemens Congdon and the full name of her husband is William Frederick Broad. 4 The OPC transcription of Richard Congdon's baptism is under Richard Langdon. Through the recorder and transcriber the 'Co' was made to be 'La'. 5 The OPC transcription of Thomas Edwin Congdon's baptism is under Thomas Edwin Langdon. Through the recorder and transcriber the 'Co' was made to be 'La'. 6 It is to be considered that Joseph Congdon was first baptized at St Keyne, which was his mother's home parish. Then later in the family home parish of Duloe at a later date, perhaps and confirmation at the family church as he showed no record of baptism there. 7 From the birth date calculation of the census records, it appears that both Elizabeth Lane 'Bessy' Congdon and her sister Eva Anna Congdon where baptized at a delayed date of 24 April 1862 together. Phillipa Allen/Ellen Rogers Congdon was born and baptized in 1862 as well. Census Records—TranscriptionsMost of the details for this family have been taken from the following census records. Note that the family is consistently at 'Badham', which the parish recorders/transcribers will vaiously corrupt it. ~ 1841 ~1841 Census - Enumeration District 5 - Civil Parish of Duloe Book 5 Folio 5 Page 3 Badham,1,Thomas Congdon,25,,Butcher,In county, [Thomas is 29 rounded down to 25] ,,Jane Congdon,,25,,In county, [Jane is 25 which rounds to 25] ,,Mary Congdon,,2,,In county, ,,Jane Steed,,15,Female Servant,In county, ,,George Abraham,12,,Agricultural Labourer,In county, ~ 1851 ~

While not totally complete, the 1861 Census upon which the Thomas Congdon family does appear, gives one of the more complete pictures of the who and size of this Congdon family. The parents are Thomas Congdon of Duloe and Jane [Ann] Congdon nee Clemens. The first born child of the family, Ann Deeble Congdon born/baptism in St Keyne, is not with the family group and is considered to have died as a child. Many a 'Genealogist' will not have the completed family from Ann Deeble Congden to Phillipa Ellen Rogers Congdon. A birthing range from 1837 to 1861 containing numerous record challenges just have not been grasped. But at least this 1861 Census record does mark the family from the second oldest to the next to last youngest of the family and may be used to make the challenge a bit easier. In the listing is Mary Jane Congdon who does remain unmarried for a long period. Susan [Clemens] Congdon appears as the first married child as Susan Broad, the wife of son-in-law William [Frederick] Broad. Then there is Albert Congdon whose records seem laking. As for Richard Congdon and Thomas [Edwin] Congdon (Sr.) the OPC has currently transcribed their last names out as 'Langdon' not Congdon. Looking at the 1861 census record's handwriting it may be easily viewed as to just how the 'Co' may be read as 'La' by some persons. And just when most would image the family coming to an end of children, off it goes with Joseph Congdon, Elizabeth Jane Rogers Congdon nicknamed 'Bessy', Eva Anna Congdon and in 1861 Phillipa Ellen Rogers Congdon. That is four more children making in total 12 children when Annie Coad Congdon is included in the grouping. ~ 1871 ~

Parish Records Relative to the Family | ||
Many a Cornwall couple has crossed over the border to Devon County and to Devonport and/or Stoke Damerel to be married. The Parish Church in Devonport is St Mary's, which is often reported as being in the District of Stoke Damerel. And to some confussion there is also the Parish Church of Stoke-Damerel, which is also in the District of Stoke Damerel. The marriage record of Thomas Congdon and Jane [Ann] Clemens is viewable at the right. And it does appear that some family members were also there on the occassion as the witnesses are Richard Clemens [father or brother] and Joseph Congdon.
