DIER/DYER/DEERE The name is nearly self explanatory. Simply it means deer. It is of Anglo-Saxon origin and was their name given to a deer. In its Old English form it is Dyri. Thus the variation from Dier to Deer and Deere are understandable. To anyone familiar with the icon of the well know farm equipment maker, John Deere, there is little question concerning the name left. The enterchange of the name is so common that within just our one family of Dier, all three forms of the name are to be found as recorded by different parish recorders.

John Deere and Jone Hearde Family
and
John Deere and Alice ________ Family

9th Great Grandparents

John Deere/Dyre appears to have had two wives. After the death of his first wife, which was most likely from giving child birth, John married again and had more children including our ancestor Jone Dier.

* Note: There is another Dier of this era but there are not enough details to even suggest
where he might fit. Even his name is in question ?Harry? Dier, buried 10 Apr 1610 out of
Nicholas Cookes howse. So there is not way of knowing if he belongs to this family or of a
prior Dier family and even perhaps a brother of cousin of our John Deere.
