"We Are Polynesian Too"

According to the old 'Traditional Polynesian Triangle Theory' Fiji laid outside of the Polynesian triangle of Hawaii, Aotearoa and Rapa Nui. But the people of Fiji and the other Polynesians of the Pacific as well as the vast majority of the peoples of the Pacific knew that Fijians were Polynesians too. Arbitrary science had put the Fijian in with the Melanesian group which included such as New Guinea. Fact is that vast number of Fijians and Polynesians were of the same ancestral stock, they were family and relatives. And they all knew it. But there were some noticable physical appearences which seemed to relate Fijians to Melanesia. That is some Fijians did not always look the same as some Polynesians. Often they would have what is today called 'Afro-hair' [wooley hair] styles and darker skin colorings. And their facial features were not as'softened' by such more 'Asian' features as were other Polynesians groups to the east. Many today consider that the first indeginous people of Fiji were those who had these 'features' but then what some call the 'Lapita' people who were great sailors, adventures, good navigators and consummate craftsmen came. Of course if you understand what is referred to as the 'Polynesian Spread', then you can well account for what happened. That is as the people of seafaring Ploynesian origins spread through the Pacific from the east to the west, they would encounter the 'indeginous peoples' and actually 'absorb' them as being the more dominate people culturally, physically and so forth. In the case of the middle Pacific, they were encountering more 'Asian' like peoples but as they pushed further west, they came to and 'conquered' if not by war, by other influences, the peoples indeginous in the western Pacific. But the sea faring push was from east to west originating as I would consider like Thor Heyerdahl, from as far east as the Americas. See Understanding the Origins and Nature of the Polymesian.
