The Gospel of Early Christianity

(Part 4)

Compiled and Presented by Don R. Hender

In part 4 of the Gospel of Early Christianity as set out in Bishop Eusebius' Ecclesiastical History Chapter 4 of Book I will be covered and an ending summary of the Early Christian Gospel of Jesus will come to an end. Not that the Gospel of Jesus Christ does end there at but rather with Chapter 5 of Bishop Eusebius history he has come to the Life of Jesus Christ and it is propossed that at that point concerning the Gospel the New Testament as support by the Old Testament works as a best source in and of it self as indeed Bishop Eusebius had referenced the Bible himself. But the intent here was to establish the foundation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to the Early Church and the first four Chapters of Book I of Eusebius history did give a state of that Gospel in the Early Church just prior to what must be understood to be that great departure from the Gospel effected by the abomination of the philosophical creed of the meta-physic nature of God which departed from the actual truth of just what God and God's Gospel actually was.

Ecclesiastical History
Book I - Chapter 3

The Religion proclaimed by him [Jesus Christ] to All Nations was neither New nor Strange

" . . . no one may suppose that his doctrine [gospel] is new and strange, as if it were framed by a man of recent origin
" . . . when in recent times the appearance of our Saviour Jesus Christ had become known to all men there immediately made its appearance a new nation . . . This nation, thus suddenly appearing at the time appointed by the inscrutable counsel of God, is the one which has been honored by all with the name of Christ.
"One of the prophets . . . saw beforehand with the eye of the Divine Spirit that which was to be . . . he cried out, "Who hath heard of such things, and who hath spoken thus? Hath the earth brought forth in one day, and hath a nation been born at once? [for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children]." (Isaiah 66:8) . . . the same prophet gives a hint . . . of the name by which the nation was to be called, when he says, "Those that serve me shall be called by a new name which [the mouth of the LORD shall name. His seed shall be mighty upon the earth: the generation of the upright] shall be blessed upon the earth."
(Isaiah 62:2 & Psalms 112:2) (EH Book I Chapter 4 paragraph/verse 1-3)

There seems to be missing as shown by [. . .] scriptural text and a scriptural bridge of text in the first scripture and between actually two scriptures in the last paragraph/verse of Bishop Eusebius at the left. Isaiah did speak of the 'new name' to be upon this sudden new nation of 'Zion' of who had been awaiting the coming of their Lord is correct but the last part of Isaiah 62:2 is missing and what appears to be the next finishing Gospel thought of conclusion actually comes from Psalms 112:2 which speaks of just who this new nation with the new name is. And that is logically those who are to become the 'seed' or 'children' of the Lord 'Jesus Christ' by the ordinance of baptism-via new or rebirth-in thus taking upon themselves the name of 'Christ' as his sons and daughters, becoming that new nation of his Chruch, the nation of the Church of Jesus Christ who would become known by the name of Christians. As to the what or why of the missing text we may only speculate whether the lost text was intentional or unintentional from the original text and related thought of Bishop Eusebius'.

That the Coming of the Messiah had been long awaited in seen in the very accounts of the Gospels of Matthew, Mark. Luke and John. And the preparation of that coming through the prophet down to and including John the Baptist is known and understood. And those who did recieve him, having looked forward to his day, did immediately so come unto him and form that nation which Eusebius is here speaking of.

" . . . although it is clear that we are new and that this new name of Christians has really but recently been known among all nations, nevertheless our life and our conduct, with our doctrines [Gospel] of religion, have not been lately invented by us, but from the first creation of man . . . have been established by by the natural understanding of divinely favored men of old.
"That the Hebrew nation is not new, but is universally honored on account of its antiquity, is known to all. . . . some excellent men lived before the flood, others of the sons and descendants of Noah lived after it, among them Abraham, whom the Hebrews celebrate as their own founder and forefather.
"If any one should assert that all those who have enjoyed the testimony of righteousness, from Abraham himself back to the first man [Adam], were Christians in fact if not in name, he would not go beyond the truth."
(EH Book I Chapter 4 paragraph/verse 4-6)

This first matter has been so given already that such as Adam, Enoch and Noah all knew and taught amonng their people the Gospel of Jesus Christ (See Moses 6:51-52; Moses 7:50-53; Moses 8:23-24). This understanding of the connection of the most ancient 'fathers' of Adam to Noah and of Abraham to Jacob/Joseph/Ephraim, has been a part of Hebrew understanding of old. And that his ancestry comes down to and throuh Israel to the very coming of Messiah has also been establish as a part of the Children and House of Israel.

And so it has again been revealed through the Prophet Joseph Smith in the Book of Moses, in the Book of Abraham, in the Book of Mormon and in the Doctrine and Covenants as well as in the Bible; that from the time of Adam they knew the name of Jesus Christ and had his gospel among them and had taken his name upon them in the covenants of the Lord, not the least of which was the Covenant of the Blessings of the fathers which came through such as Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph. (See Moses 6, 7 & 8; D&C 27:10, etc.)

" . . . the Christian man, through the knowledge and the teaching of Christ [Jesus/Jehovah], is distinguished for temperance and righteousness, for patience in life and manly virtue, and for a profession of piety toward the one and only God over all—all that was zealously practiced by them not less than by us.
" . . . they also clearly knew the very Christ of God [Jesus/Jehovah our Saviour]; for it has already been shown that he appeared unto Abraham, that he imparted revelations to Isaac, that he talked with Jacob, that he held converse with Moses and with the prophets that came after.
" . . . you will find those divinely favored men honored with the name of Christ [Messiah Jehovah/Jesus], according to the passages which says of them, "Touch not my Christs [My Anointed Ones], and do my prophets no harm."
(1 Chronicles 16:22, Psalms 105:15) (EH Book I Chapter 4 paragraph/vers 7-9)

Now we do not worship any such as Abraham, Moses or the Prophets of old, nor such as Joseph Smith, though they all be in the similitude of Christ, but in that same spirit espoused by Bishop Eusebius of old, we may say they were of God's chosen ones, that is God's Anointed Ones, and one of God's 'Christs', as much as was Joseph of Egypt, as much as Moses of Egypt, as King David of Jerusalem, or as much as any of God's 'Holy Men' from Adam on down to any of God's Prophets and Apostles have ever been so set apart. We so honor these great and noble ones of God who were anointed and as Bishop Eusebius would indicate, they who were and did act in the similitude of the Christ, that is God's Anointed Son and Ministering God, in their day and in their callings or if you will 'economy', 'dispensation', 'generation' or 'oikonomia'. These are they who have been given their 'calling', 'mission', 'anointing' and 'responsibility' before God the Father and so fulfilled it even as Jesus Christ has so done in the name of the Father in all things.

" . . . that religion, which has lately been preached to all nations through the teachings of Christ, [is] the first and most ancient of all religions, and the one discovered by those divinely favored men in the age of Abraham.
" . . . Abraham, a long time afterward, was given the command of circumcision, . . . nevertheless before this [that] it was declared that he had received the testimony of the righteousness through faith; as the divine word says, "Abraham believed in God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness." (Genesis 15:6, Psalms 106:31, Romans 4:3, Romans 4:5; John 8:56-59)
" . . . unto Abraham . . . there was given by God, who revealed himself unto him, a prophecy in regard to those who in coming ages should be justified in the same way as he. The prophecy was in the following words: "And in thee shall all the tribes of the earth be blessed." And again, "He shal become a nation great and numerous and in him shall all the nations of the earth be blessed." (EH Book I Chapter 4 paragraph/verse 10-12)

As already noted in this accompanying commentary, the Gospel of Jesus Christ has been in effect since Adam and it is not doubt the most ancient of religions, all others being but corruptions at best as spun and influenced by Lucifer the Devil himself, having in various cases a likeness but entrenched in the false lies of Satan.

As revealed in the book of Abraham, Abraham had sought for and received the blessings of the fathers concerning the 'seed', that is the blessed coming of the Messiah. And he had a true faith and understanding of Jesus/Jehovah which he exercised in relation to that Great High Priest of God Melchizedek. (See Abraham 1 and Genesis 14:18-20) To who Abraham paid his tithes and had ministered to him the sacrement of the Lord at the hand of Melchizedek the Lord's High Priest and King of Salem. And Jesus was that Great Jehovah the very God of Abraham in the stead of the Father so empowered by the Father.

Yes, Bishop Eusebius knew of Abraham well, that he Abraham knew and worshiped the Lord Jesus/Jehovah and had received and bore that covenant of the blessings of the fathers that the nations through his seed would be blessed, every nation, kindred, tongue and people who had ever and would ever be upon the earth.

" . . . For he [Abraham], having renounced the superstition of his fathers, and former error of his life, and having confessed the one God over all [Jevovah/Jesus as Anointed and Empower by the Father], and having worshiped him with deeds of of virtue, and not with the service of the law which was afterwards given by Moses, was justified by faith in Christ, the Word of God, who appeared unto him. To him, then, who was a man of this character, it was said that all the tribes and all the nations of the earth should be blesed in him.
" . . . that very religion of Abraham has reappeared at the present time, practiced in deeds, more efficacious than words, by Christians alone throughout the world.
" . . . we who are of Christ practice one and the same mode of life and have one and the same religion as those divinely favored men of old . . . Whence it is evident that the perfect religion committed to us by the teachings of Christ is not new and strange, but, if the truth must be spoken, it is the first and the true religion. This may suffice for this subject." (EH Book 1 Chapter 4 paragraph/verse 13-15)

Yes, give me that Old Time religion which was good enough for Abraham, it is good enough for me and is that same religion of Jesus Christ even the very Gospel of Jesus Christ. That is that in Jesus/Jehovah Messiah/Christ is given by the Father that one and only way to heaven and the presence of God the Father and His Kingdom. It was the faith of Abraham and it is the faith and hope that I have that in and through and by the Lord Jehovah/Jesus Christ I may be saved and resurrected and live again and be blessed as the children of the fathers, of Abraham, of Jesus Christ and also as the child of God the Father who I am, having been born of him in spirit and saved with Christ in God unto being of the House of God.

The promises of God the Father from before the foundation of the world sealed in and upon the dispensation of Jesus/Jehovah, and thence through such as Adam, Enoch, and Noah and then through such as Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph (D&C 27:10) and down unto us through that same Lord God and Saviour given by the Father of Heaven through him, Jesus/Jehovah, unto we who believe and follow and live in him and his gospel which is of the Plan of the Father to bring to pass the immortallity and eternal life of man by way of His Son, who is our Advocate, Mediator, Intercessor between our Father in Heaven and us men of earth, he, Jesus/Jehovah being given to be our Ministering God of this temporal realm unto the glory of the Father, that the Father through and by him Created all things and made it possible that that which he had so created he could and would so Redeem. Amen.

Summary

Now in truth this has been but a foundationally basic stage of belief for the Gospel of Jesus Christ to be played out upon. Since the false creed of Christianity has made it imposible to lay such a solid true foundation it has been necessary to present this stage of understanding so that one might come to a true understanding just what that fundamental stage of coming to understand the true nature of God is. But don't be mislead. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is much more than having a true understanding of the meta-physical nature of God and in many respects that is perhaps of lesser importance. Jesus' life and teachings are a true fundamental mainstream of just what his living Gospel of life is all about. Come now and Follow the pure teaching of Jesus as found in the scripture of his life, the four gospels, the teachings of his Apostles and prophets as found in the rest of the scriptures of the ' New Testament, Old Testament, Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price and the Doctrine and Covenants. Further there are living Apostles and Prophets who do indeed teach and guide one's life of living in the paths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And they are they which teach that God is not dead but lives and directs his people today and they do not deny the powers of heaven in providing for God's Children on earth as it is in heaven. The fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is so available to you today.

And now let me briefly summarize what it is that we have establish concerning a fundamental Gospel Understanding of God the Father, the Father of the spirits of man beginging with the first-born son in spirit even Jehovah who is so named ordained and called Jesus. And also so established him who is God the Son, Creator, Jehovah the Ministering God, as well as Jesus the Savior and Redeemer, and our BELOVED/DAVID our LORD and KING of the Millennial Day and Final Judgements of our Lord and Ministering God who functions under the direction of the Father to the Glory of the Father as the Son, who ministers in the name and in the stead of the Father and does return that glory and honor back to the Father and also does the Father so return such honor and glorify upon the Son.

And from the Beginning, according to the Plan of the Father, did the Father so set His first-born son Jehovah/Jesus apart unto his dispensation and mission to stand by and with the Father empower by the power of the Father to stand beside the Father and in the stead of the Father in all things from the performance of the temporal creaion under the direction of the Father as set out in the opennng verses of the Gospel of John, that whatsoever he so would create he would be so empowered to save and redeem unto the Father to the Glory of the Father through him, the Son of the Father. And also that he, standing in the stead of the Father would Minister unto the temporal realm as Jehovah, God of the Old Testament, and also as teaching and ministering Savior and Lord of the New Testament to the fulfilling of the saving work of the atonemnt that all men may so be saved and redeem in, by and through him and only in, by and through him and not by any other name so given under heaven according to the endowment, mind and will of the Father so fulfilled by the Son Jehovah/Jesus. And then also that in the end of time, that he Jehovah/ Jesus would stand to judge the children of God according to the mind and will of the Father as that agent of the Father, the Advocate, Intercession and Mediator between man and the Father. That the 'Dispensation' and/or Generation of Jesus/Jehovah so spans the ages of time from all eternity to all eternity is so given and estabished by that Glorieous God of Eternity, even our own Father in Heaven by, though and in whom we were spirit born before the coming time of the earth. And this is God's Plan that through, by and in the so establish Dispensation and Generation of Jesus/Jehovah has, does and will the Father and the Son and further assisted by the work of the Holy Ghost, bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man (Moses 1:39).

And be it known also that in one and one only was this power of endowment given by the father unto the Son to the extent that even in that one was established and given the fulness of the power of the Godhead as of stated and revealed by the voice of Paul as he so stated, "For in him [Jehovah/Jesus] dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." (Colossians 2:9) Not that Father, Son and Holy Ghost are but one being, but that in one was so entrusted the fulness of the powers of the Godhead, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, that in that one this work of salvation and exaltation may be so accomplished and by not other means or way so achieved.

And now then, "Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God [that is of God our Father in Heaven as his spirit children], we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. And the times of this ignorance God winked at, but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed as day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man (Jehovah/Jesus) whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him [Jehovah Messiah/Jesus Christ] from the dead." (Acts 17:29-31) "For in him [Jehovah/Jesus] we live, and move, and have our being, as certain also of you own poets have said, For we are also his offspring." (Acts 17:28, Isaiah 65:23) Yes, as the spirit children of God the Father, we stand in that possibility as stated in Psalms 82:6 "I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High."

And is it not said, 'Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God." (Hosea 1:10) And is it not stated further, "Have we not all one father? hath not one God created [begotten] us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers? (Malachi 2:10)

And to end, Jesus/Jehovah, the first-born of God the Father of Spirits, and the Only Begotten of Him in the flesh, was so selected, anointed, ordained, and established to stand in the stead of the Father from the Beginning of the ages of time until the end thereof. He is that very Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and End who so is given to stand at those portal holes of time from all eternity to all eternity that by, in and through him and none other do men come to dwell and be tested and return unto their reward. That for this duration we are to so recognized and worship Jesus/Jehovah as our one and only true God of this temporal time so given and so establish by the Father for this the Dispensaion of the Son of God, to this I so testify. And I do worship that one, Jehovah/Jesus, as being my God of this Generation and Dispensation so established by the Father. And this even as the children of Israel so worshipped the one true God. And I do also so worship the Father, according to the Doctrine of the Father, so set out by my God Jesus Christ/Jehovah Messiah. I pray unto that Father, my Father, Our Father Who Art in Heaven and I do so in the name of Jesus Christ. For such is He my Father who stands in that Celestial Heaven so Glorified of the Celestial order, have such Celestial and Eternal Body of that Glory and as such He so ordained his first-born spirit son for only those who do so pertain unto this other realm which is not of that Celestial Heaven, may so minister unto this other temporal realm, as it is said, " . . . But there are [none] who minister to this earth but those who do belong or have belonged to it." (D&C 130:5) And so, Jesus/Jehovah does so belong or pertain unto it, he creating, ministering unto it, condescending to come down and be born in and unto it and finaly to stand to reign over it and judge it in the stead of the Father for and in behalf of the Father, returning the Glory unto the Father, from who he had been empowered of and has received in return the honor and glory of the Father for so fulfilling that Dispensation, his Dispensation as being in, of and even as in the stead of the Father over the whole of it.

This is the true nature and foundation of God upon which one may fully and completely build the Gospel of Jesus Christ upon. "The Father [God the Father of Spirits, Our Father Who Art in Heaven] has a [glorified Celestial and Eternal] body of of flesh and bones as tangible as man's [which houses his Spirit and Intelligence], the Son also [now that he has come to earth and been so resurrected unto glory]; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us [to fulfill that mission and dispensation which has been given him to so commune between God and man inbehalf of both and or either the Father and/or the Son]. (D&C 130:22)

[Final note: And to those who will receive it, I so give the 'Pillars of the Eternal Plan of God' as being those pillars and structure which also span the structure of the Dispensation and/or Generation of Jesus/Jehovah and he bing as it were the Alpha and Omega of the ages of time. First Pillar and stucture is the Creation, that is the temporal creation performed by the Son under the direction of the Father. Second is that pillar of the Fall of Man as given as the Fall of Adam from the spirit world in and unto the temporal mortal realm of existence of man to be tested as to the nature of the spirit and intelligence of man in relation to that creature of flesh and blood and bones to test the ability to subject the flesh unto the control of the spirit. Third, to provide the way whereby man might return there is the Pillar of the Atonement of Jesus/Jehovah that what he so has created he has power to redeem. And fourth and often not seen or forgotten as the fourth leg of a four legged demintional table with the forth leg obsured by the foreground of the three legs, I state the Fourth and final pillar of the Dispensation of Christ and that which enters one back into eternity, is that of Judgment unto one's just reward so eternally set and establish as the culminating end of the Plan of God and the Dispensation or Generation of Jesus/Jehovah.]
