The Will of John Watts of Port Isaac (Parish of St Endellion) Gentleman 1811 In the name of God Amen I John Watts of Port Isaac in the County of Cornwall Gentleman being of sound disposing mind memory and understanding but considering the uncertainty of human life do make this my last will and Testament hereby revoking all former and other wills by me at any time made and commending my soul to almighty God and my body to the Earth to be decently interred I give and dispose of my Estate & Effects as follows I give & bequeath to my dear Wife Jane Watts during her natural life all the Interest due and to grow due from all monies & securities for money bequeathed her in and by the Will of her late sister [aunt] Joanna Moon together with the care and custody of such securities I also give to my said wife the sum of ten pounds and the sole use of the Dwelling house and premises in Port Isaac aforesaid lately rebuilt by me and now occupied by my Son William and the use of half of my household Furniture during her life and from and after her decease I give the said half of my Furniture equally between my Children John & Susan Watts and in case my said Daughter Susan be single & unmarried the time of my said wifes decease my will is and I do order & direct that she shall have the sole use of the Little parlour the Chamber over the best parlour and a Garret of the said Dwelling house for and as her place of Residence until she shall be married I also give to my said Daughter Susan the sum of Three hundred & thirty pounds six months after my decease in addition to the sum of Fifty pounds which she will have & receive under & by virtue of my marriage Settlement & the sum of Twenty pounds given her by the will of her Great Aunt Mrs Mary Peter and I do order & direct my Executor hereinafter named to pay my said daughter Susan Interest for the said sum of three hundred and fifty pounds from the time of my death I give devise and bequeath to my son John Watts the sum of four hundred & fifty pounds six months after my decease in addition to the fifty pound which he will receive under my marriage settlement with Interest also for the said sum of four hundred & fifty pounds from the time of my death to be paid or allowed him by my Executor I also give devise & bequeath unto my said Son John Watts his heirs & Assigns for ever All that the said Dwelling house in Port Isaac aforesaid with the fixtures & the garden thereto belonging subject nevertheless to the respective holdings and interests of my said Wife & Daughter therein as aforesaid but my will is and I do hereby charge my said Wife & my said Son John Watts as they shall respectively become possessed of the said Dwelling house & premises and by and out of the Rents & Profits thereof to pay yearly and every year to the Trustees or Stewards of the Launceston Annuitant Society for the benefit of Widows of which my Son in law John Archer Trevan is a member the subscription or sum demanded of and paid by the Members of such annuitant Society during the life of the said John Archer Trevan for the better & more effectively securing to my Daughter Ann the the (sic) Wife of the said John Archer Trevan in case she shall survive her said Husband all benefit & advantage of the Annuity or annuities to arise from and be payable to her as being the widow of the said john Archer Trevan from the said Society I give & bequeath to my Friend Abraham Hambley of Treon Esquire & my son John Watts their Exors & admons the sum of ninety pounds now due & owing to me on bond from my said Son in law John Archer Trevan & also the further sum of one hundred pounds in addition to this fifty pounds secured to my said Daughter Ann by my marriage Settlement in trust nevertheless for the said Abraham Hambly and John Watts to place the said several sums upon good security or Securities and to pay and apply the Interest arising therefrom from time to time to my said Daughter Ann Trevan during her natural life and so as the same or any part thereof be not subject or liable to or charged or chargeable with the control Debts or Engagements of her said Husband and from and after her decease in trust to pay & divide the said several sums of money equally amonge such of the Children of my said Daughter Ann Trevan as shall be then living I give & bequeath to my Son Richard Watts the sum of five pounds in addition to the fifty pounds secured to him by my marriage Settlement I give & bequeath all and every my parts or shares of and in the Industry Good Intent Fox and Union Pilchard Loan and Concerns at Port Isaac aforesaid and the active Pilchard Loan or Concern at Newquay in the said County of Cornwall equally to and among my Children William, John, & Susan Watts & Ann Trevan share & share alike I give devise & bequeath to the said Abraham Hambly and my said Son John Watts & to the Survivor of them & the heirs of such Survivor all & singular my freehold Lands Tenements & premises in Port Isaac aforesaide Except the said Dwelling house & Garden as hereinbefore given & devised to my Wife and my said Son John ) In trust nevertheless for the use of my Son William Watts during his natural life and from and after his decease in trust for such person and persons and for such Estate and Estates uses and intents and purposes as the said William Watts shall from time to time by any Deed or Instrument in writing or by his last Will & Testament duly executed give devise limit or appoint the same and in default of any such Gift Devise Limitation or appointment In trust for the right heirs of my said Son William Watts and to and for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever but my will is and I do hereby order and direct that my said Son William Watts or my said Trustees by and out of the yearly rents profits and produce of my said Lands & Tenements do and shall yearly and every year pay to the Trustees or Stewards of the Padstow Annuitant Society for the benefit of Widows of which my said Son in law John Archer Trevan is also a Member the subscription or sum demanded of and paid by the members of such Annuitant Society during the life of the said John Archer Trevan for the better & more effectually securing to my said Daughter Ann Trevan in case she shall survive her said Husband all and all manner of benefit and advantage of the annuity or annuities to arise and become payable to her from the said society as being the Widow of the said John Archer Trevan All the Rest Residue and Remainder of my Goods Chattels sum & sums of money and securities for money & personal Estate & Effects whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kind soever (subject to the payment of my just Debts and the several Legacies hereinbefore mentioned) I give & bequeath to my said Son William Watts whom I do nominate & appoint sole Executor of this my will In witness Whereof I have to this my will (written on three sheets of paper) set my hand to whom admon was granted having been first sworn by common duly to adm To all Christian people to whom these presents shall or may come I John Watts of port Isaac in the County of Cornwall Gentleman send greeting whereas I duly made and executed my last Will and Testament bearing date the nineteenth Day of June one thousand eight hundred and Eleven and therein and thereby gave & bequeathed to my daughter Susan Watts and my Son John Watts the one half of my household Furniture equally between them after the decease of my wife Jane Watts and I also gave & bequeathed to my said Daughter Susan the sum of three hundred and thirty pounds to be paid her six months after my decease and I also gave & bequeathed all & every my parts shares of and in the Industry Good Intent Fox and Union Pilchard Loan and concerns at Port Isaac aforesaid and the active Pilchard Loans or Concern at Newquay in the said County of Cornwall equally to and among my Children William John & Susan Watts & Ann Trevan share & share alike and whereas my said Daughter Susan Watts hath lately intermarried with Charles Phillips of Port Isaac aforesaid Yeoman now I do by this Paper writing which I declare to be a Codicil to my said Will and to be answered to and taken as and for a part thereof revoke and make void all & every the said several before mentioned Bequests and do direct that they be not taken or considered to be part of my said Will and in lieu and stead thereof I do hereby give & bequeath as and in manner hereinafter mentioned I give and bequeath the one half of my household Furniture to my Son John Watts after the death of my said Wife I give and bequeath to my daughter Ann Trevan my one sixty fourth part or share in the Industry Pilchard Loan and Concern at port Isaac aforesaid I give & bequeath to my Sons William & John Watts all and every my parts or shares of and in the Good Intent Fox Rashleigh and Union pilchard Loan or Concern at Port Isaac aforesd the Active Pilchard Loan or Concern at Newquay aforesaid equally between them Also I give & bequeath to my said John Watts his Exors & admors the sum of Three hundred pounds to be paid six months after my Decease in trust nevertheless for the sole use and benefit of my said Daughter Susan Phillips and so as the same be not at the disposal or control of her said Husband nor subject or liable to his Debts or Engagements but for and at her own separate use and disposal only and I do hereby ratify and confirm all and every other the Bequests and Legacies in my said Will In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand &
