The OLVER Family Cousins
The Olver families identified and
presented are those of whom are our cousin families. I've not yet been able
to trace the 'inlaw' Olver family ancestry back like what has been done on
the two TOMS families we are connected to. And so the first Olver Family
begins with that family which is our 3rd great aunt's family, Amelia Hender,
the sister of Thomas Rowe Hender and daughter of William Hender and Elizabeth
Rowe. They were married in Callington and all ten of their children are
found with Christian baptism dates with parents named in St Martin by Looe
and Looe parish records. Charles Hender Olver was likely born in 1839 and
then baptized in 1840. That still leaves a possibility of one or two children
between 1835 and 1838 which no record has to date shown for this family.
the Census records do not show any thus if there are they likely died an
'infant's' type death, never making any of the census records beginning in
1841.

** Which Richard Olver? Reasonable deductions: 1. The marriage record of Amelia/Melia Hender and Richard Olver lists
Amelia as being of Callington and that is where the marriage took place. That record lists Richard Olver as being
of St Martins in Cornwall. So first impression is to look at baptism for a Richard Olver at St Martins by Looe of
which there is only one for the time frame, Richard Olver, baptized 4 February 1816 son of Walter Olver and Ann.
2. Three Census records of the family of 1851, 1861 and 1871 lists Richard Olver, head of house, saddler of Morval
and with age dates which support an 1812 birth and baptism of which there is one, 23 July 1812, son of John Olver
and Elizabeth (see IGI as of March 1981). So which Richard is the right Richard? 3. A death/burial of a Richard
Olver, age 5, occurs as recorded at St Martin by Looe 26 October 1820 AND there is only one Richard Olver baptized
in the whole area of East Looe/St Martin/Morval etc. which fits that Richard Olver and that is Richard who was
baptized 4 February 1816. Certainly the likelihood that his birth was in 1815 is real and of record he is the only
one which fits the burial record of a 5 year old in late 1820 (1815-1820). Logical deduction would favor that
the living Richard Olver of Morval, is the husband of Amelia Hender and father of their 10 children and that the
'dead' Richard Olver of St Martins buried at age 5 is the son of Walter Olver and Ann, born 1815 and baptized in
early 1816, 4 February 1816. The 'fly' is that OPC Cornwall does not have the Morval baptism, which only appears
in the LDS IGI extration program so recent online researchers who pay little attention to the Census records and
don't look to reconcile burials with births/baptisms have and will continue to deduce Walter and Ann Olver as the
parents of this 'Richard Olver', but that does not get the children sealed to the more logically correct father.
Some may point out that the 1841 Census lists Richard Olver at age 25 which matches the 1816 date, but also is
Amelia also listed as age 25 on that Census and we know her dates are different from other records including the
the next three census records of 1851, 1861, and her burial record of 1870. The fact here is that the 1841 census
did 'round' many adult ages to end with '0' or '5' rather than to record their actual ages.
Family of Charles Hender OLVER & Elizabeth
As well as can be found out, Charles Hender Olver represents the eldest child, or
at least the first child which lived to an adult age of the children of Richard Olver
and Amelia Hender. A marriage record has yet to surface for Charles Hender Olver and
his wife Elizabeth. That would probably take some searching to the General Registry
indexes and estimating a marriage date of 1860 or before. Whether their first two
children are actually twins or just of the same baptism date, it usually is
not a good indicator of twins as the census records would suggest the two are
at least a year's age apart with Amelia being the older child.
