BIBLE DICTIONARY ASCENSION
The formal departure of the Risen Savior from the earth, 40 days after
his resurrection. During the 40 days he had visited from time to time with
the apostles, speaking to them “of things pertaining to the kingdom of
God.” The ascension took place from a point on the Mount of Olives in the
presence of the disciples. At that time two angels from heaven testified
that in the future the Lord would return “in like manner.” See Mark 16: 19; Luke 24: 51; Acts 1: 9-12; cf. John 6: 62.
