Something bitter; hence the word is applied to the bile (Job 16: 13; Job 20: 25), or to the poison of serpents (Job 20: 14). More often it denotes the juice of some bitter plant (Deut. 29: 18; Deut. 32: 32; Matt. 27: 34).
