And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed ^aSodom^• and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto ^bZoar^•.

 Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.

 And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an ^aheap^•.

 ¶ And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people;

 And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)

 That the ^awaters^• which came down from ^babove^{• c}stood^• and rose up upon an ^dheap^• very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even ^ethe^• salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.

 And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on ^adry^• ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.

 And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.

 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.

 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.

 And Elijah took his ^amantle^•, and wrapped it together, and smote the ^bwaters^•, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.

 ¶ And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.

 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;

 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they ^aparted^• hither and thither: and Elisha went over.

 NOW Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a ^aleper.

 And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman’s wife.

 And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.

 And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.

 And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and ^atook^• with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment.

 And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have therewith sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy.

 And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I ^aGod^•, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he ^bseeketh^• a quarrel against me.

 ¶ And it was so, when Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a ^aprophet^• in Israel.

 So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.

 And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and ^awash^• in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be ^bclean.

 But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.

 Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage.

 And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some ^agreat^• thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?

 Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, ^aaccording^• to the saying of the man of God: and his ^bflesh^• came again like unto the ^cflesh^• of a little child, and he was ^dclean.

 ¶ And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I ^aknow^• that there is no ^bGod^• in all earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a ^cblessing^• of thy servant.

 IN those days came ^aJohn^• the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,

 And saying, ^aRepent^• ye: for the ^bkingdom^• of heaven ^cis^• at hand.

 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet ^aEsaias, saying, The ^bvoice^• of one crying in the wilderness, ^cPrepare^• ye the way of the Lord, make his ^dpaths^• straight.

 And the same John had his ^araiment^• of ^bcamel^•’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was ^clocusts^• and wild honey.

 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,

 And were baptized of him in Jordan, ^aconfessing their sins.

 ¶ Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be ^abaptized of him.

 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

 And Jesus answering said unto him, ^aSuffer^• it to be so now: for thus it ^bbecometh^• us to ^cfulfil all ^drighteousness. Then he suffered him.

 And Jesus, when he was ^abaptized, went up ^bstraightway^• out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the ^cSpirit of God descending like a ^ddove, and lighting upon him:
