1848 was a busy year for Sidney Benajah Kent, at age 19 he would marry Mary Matilda Daley (age 17) on May 5, 1848 in Kanesville (Council Bluffs), Pottawattomie County, Iowa. Mary was born April 16, 1832 in Henrietta, Ohio. and on 5 June 1848 he would depart as a part of Brigham Young Company (1848). About 1220 individuals were counted as members of this company, but according to family records, the young newly weds did not travel alone. They were assisted by a two 'cousin' of Sidney's by the name Eliza Ann Dibble and a young Philo Dibble Jr. just in his twelveth year. Though they were actually cousins, because 'uncle' Sidney was some 8 years older than Philo, it may have been considered more proper for Philo Jr. to refer to him as 'uncle Sidney' rather than as 'cousin Sydney' which was reserved for more same age cousins or at least from David Debois Dibble the relator of the account, Philo Dibble Jr.'s son, it certainly was 'Uncle Sydney' from his personal perspective of youth related to his relative Sidney whose age was greater than David's own father.
This company departed from the outingfitting post at Winter Quarters, Nebraska with about 1220 individuals in the company on 5 June 1848. Winter Quarters, Nebraska is basically just across the Missour River from Council Bluffs/Kanesvill, Iowa. It would have been a simple task for Sidney and Mary and company to have joined them a month after the couple's marriage of the 5 May 1848 in Bluffs/Kanesville. This company, being so large, would not arrive in the Salt Lake Valley until the 20-24 September 1848, some three and a half months later. (see: Winter Quarters, Kanesville, Council Bluffs)

died 20 JUL 1927 in Logan, Cache County, UT. He married Elsie Deseret Ward 30
JAN 1877 in Centerville, UT.
v. George Albert Kent was born 7 MAY 1857 in Bountiful, Davis County, UT, and
died 18 AUG 1857 in Bountiful, Davis County, UT.
vi. Charles Edward Kent was born 20 AUG 1858 in Bountiful, Davis County, UT, and
died 2 FEB 1935 in Montpelier, ID.
vii. Samantha Adeline Kent was born 26 APR 1862 in Centerville, Davis County, UT,
and died 15 JUL 1896 in Raymond, Bear Lake County, UT. She married Frank
Hoopes.
viii. Matilda Eliza Kent was born 26 OCT 1862 in Bountiful, Davis County, UT, and
died 21 OCT 1927 in Mountain Green, Morgan County, UT. She married Edward
France.
ix. Philo Alvero Kent was born 30 AUG 1865 in Bountiful, Davis County, UT, and
died 19 MAY 1919 in Logan, Cache County, UT. He married Margaret Thomas.
x. Alice Evelyn Kent was born 14 APR 1868 in Bountiful, Davis County, UT, and
died 10 MAR 1930 in Syracuse, Davis County, UT. She married Charles Barber 22
DEC 1886.
Sidney and Mary lived in Bountiful, Utah for many years and as presented, all of their 10 children were born there or near there. Mary Matilda (Daley) Kent died on July 4, 1887 in Bountiful, Davis County, Utah. Later Sidney removed to Cache county Utah were he died in Lewiston December 8, 1914.
Emeline Horne was born on 6 June 1837 at Friendship, Lincoln, ME. She was the daughter of Moses Horne and Angeline Hodgkins. Emeline Horne married Sidney Benajah Kent on 10 November 1856 at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake Country, UT. Emeline Horne died on 13 September 1918 at Lewiston, Cache, UT, at age 81. She was buried on 15 September 1918 at Lewistion, Cache, UT.
