BEGINNING with the lady of the house's family, that would be the Hender family of William Worth Hender and Elizabeth Trezise as indicated upon the Certified Copy of an Entry of Birth of Elizabeth Ann Hender. Now her father William Worth Hender was the son of William Hender the watch and clockmaker of Altarnun, Callington and Venterdon; and his mother was Elizabeth Rowe. He was the brother of my second great grandfather Thomas Rowe Hender. And her mother was Elizabeth Trezise, daughter of Philip Trezise and Ann Williams. For whatever cause Elizabeth Ann Hender was an only child. The certificate reads as follows: Certified Copy of an Entry of Birth, Given at the General Register Office, London. Application Number B1262. Registration Distrit Launceston. 1851. Birth in the Sub-district of North Hill, in the County of Cornwall. Columns:—/ No. 412. 1) When and where born, TwentySixth April 1851 Venterdon Stoke Climsland. 2) Name, if any Elizabeth Ann. 3) Sex Girl 4) Name and surname of father William Worth Hender. 5) Name, surname and maiden surname of mother Elizabeth Hender formerly Trezise. 6) Occupation of father Saddler. 7) Signiture, description and residence of informant William Worth Hender Father Venterdon Stoke Climsland. 8) When registered Twelfth May 1851. 9) Signature of registrar Francis Whitford Registrar. 10) Name entered after registration ——. Certified to be a true copy of an entry in the certified copy of a Register of Births in the District above mentioned. Given at the General Register Office, London, under the Seal of the said Office, the 6th day of March 1984. Etc. What this certified copy does not give is the signitures of the participants, husband and wife, which would have displayed whether the signed their name or made their mark beside their clerk written names. Nor does it give the names and signiture or marks of the witnesses which can be of interest or of the officiator who conducted the marriage. Thoses added bits of information are found upon the original entry of birth. Sometimes such can be found either on the internet or elsewhere. Since we have no diary of stories of the family found, we jump to the census to give us some decade snapshots of their lives as found there upon. In 1851, According to the Census Here we find William [Worth] Hender, age 29, and his wife Elizabeth, ?anxiously? waiting for the birth of their child, whose sex would be yet unknow and to be determined by birth. William Hender, father of William Worth Hendner, has passed away and left a Will in 1948, whereby the then family home and other property located on the Venterdon avenue in Stoke Climsland was left to William's sons Thomas Rowe Hender and William Worth Hender. Thus this is presumed where William is now living—mother Elizabeth Hender having also just past, being buried 14 February 1850, Venterdon, Stoke Climsland before the Census event. The 1851 Census was conducted on the evening of 30 March 1851, just about 4 weeks prior to the birth of Elizabeth Ann Hender. So mother's death in February, census in March and daughter's birth in April. I is supposed that William is running his Saddler business from home and perhaps in town at Callington. Folio 23 Page 37 Now between the census of 1871 and the end of the year 1872, ninteen year old Elizabeth Ann Hender and seventeen year old John Henry Bennetts have gotten together, and at reported ages of 20 for John Henry, which is at least a year high and 22 years fof Elizabeth Ann which is also perhaps a year high, the two get married on Christmas Day, 1872, over a year and half after their reported ages on the 1871 census record recorded on 2 April 1871 when at most he should only be 19 (17+2) and she only 21 (19+2). The name will would be a family name of Elizabeth's father and grandfather. And there is no baptism of record for a William Bennetts for as to determine the parents of this William.
