BOWDEN / BAWDEN FAMILY of DULOE & LISKEARD
BOWDEN/BAWDEN: Bowden and Bawden are the same name of Anglo-Saxon origin. It is either either a topographical, describing a
"dweller by the top of a hill" or (bufan dune) "above the hill" from the Olde English pre 7th Century. Or it may be locational
from any of the places called Bowden/Bowdon but still with the 'hill' concept of the location still involved. Even places of the
name in Scotland, from the Gaelic 'both an duin' still translates 'house on the hill'. It can be found recorded as Bowden, Bawden,
Bowdon and Bawdon, and it can vary even per the same person by as such a simple means as the variation chosen by the record
keeper. (From 'The Internet surname Database) Now whether our name is to be searched as Bowden or Bawden perhaps the parish
listing and extration of the intial family marriages transcription ought to be our guide. To that end such Duloe and Sheviock
parish records of the marriages will be presented below.

*Note: Baptism information on Joane and Susanna obtained through Family Search - see below.
Also found there were two Boaden sons baptism in Breage whose details would fit this
family if Edward's required profession was one in which Edward was required to travel.
So though they may not fit a listing of them and a looking at them seemed to be of
interest even though Breage is at the far west end of Cornwall and that the marriage
date is preceeded by what would be Edward Boaden's birth.

^ There is a question on whether the marriage date ought to have been extracted as in
1703 - Note listing per full text of Cornwall parish:

There is nothing in that listing that would suggest 1705, 1703 would be a better
summise if this was taken from the parish record. Sometime '5' and '3' are hard to
read and can be mistaken for each other. New life for the wonder two sons listed
in family above??

Family Search gives two other possible matches for Jane:
Jane Chapman
England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975
christening: 24 April 1683 NORTH TAMERTON,CORNWALL,ENGLAND

mother: Welmett
And regular OPC Cornwall records lookup provides a Johana Chapman,
cb 4 Mar 1679 at Bridgrule which would bring her nearer to child
bearing age, but not exactly where she could have been found by
Edward. (See Chapman page)
