The DENNIS Familycompiled by Don R. Hender
THE Dennis family connects into our families
of interest in a most unusual manner. In this case we begin with those connections into
the Peter family which has been tied to the family of Thomas Hender and Sarah Adams, my
4th Great Grandparents. That Peter family is the family of
Richard Peter and his wife Elizabeth Turner, which has
a family information page as noted Hender Cousins. Also, since the matter below is a rather
complex matter, another page entitled Go Figure has also been
created in an effort to unravel the matters as hand.
- William Davy/Davey (1792-1826), son of Richard Davy/Davey and Mary Knight.
- Thomas Dennis (1780-1854), son of William Dennis and Catherine Whale.
- Mary Peter (1790- ), daughter of Richard Peter and Elizabeth Turner. [She first marries William
Davey and then marries Thomas Dennis as Mary Davy on 25 February 1830 at age 40 after
her first husband William Davy/Davey passes away. At the time of that marriage Thomas
Dennis is age 50 himself.]

** Either the baptism year is off and is 1815 or the burial year is off and is 1816. Mary Ann Dennis
was born May 181?, baptism 26 Jun 181?, died Dec 181?, and was buried 21 Dec 181? at age 8 months.
There was a clerical error in writing and/or transcribing the year date. Mary Ann Dennis does not
appear with her family on any found record at an older age. Only Mary Davey is later there in house.

Description Parties:
(1)Mary Davey of Lewannick, widow to (2)Richard Davey of Lewannick,
yeoman. Bond in £500 To abide by arbitration of Francis Hearle Rodd
and John King Lethbridge in dispute concerning estate of Mary's
deceased husband William Davey.
Note: This may be due to the step by step timing of the marriage of 19 November 1825 and
then the death, 24 May 1826, and burial of William Davey in 1826 only 5 months after
the marriage. And then the child and heir of William Davey being born in the same year
that William Davey was deceased some months later. She being Christian Baptized, 6 November
1826 at Lewannic. Review the sequence of dates above. It seems to be tied to Mary Davey
the daughter that Stray(er) Park in Polyphant and that which follows the family from Davey
through Dennis, and then to Strout. And the family grouping who subsequentually lives
together perhaps being further testament (see the census records below).

Thomas Hawke Dennis and Amelia Lang Family
There are a number who present that Thomas Dennis, son of Thomas Dennis and Mary Hawke, is the
Thomas Dennis who marries Amelia Lang of South Petherwin who migrate to Canada and has the large
family here presented. Those who have researched this family also make him to be Thomas Hawke
Dennis as to his full name. The facts seem to fit quite well as Thomas Dennis last appears with
his family on the 1841 census in Cornwall, marries in 1847 at South Petherwin, has one daughter
Catherine/Katherine in spring of 1849, migrates in 1850 and infant Joe or Joseph died on the
trip over, and the rest of the family in born in Canada.
