(Children None per 1911 Census)
* Most set forth that this is his marriage to Elizabeth TOMS, as do I.
** Some have his death as early as 1881, which is not correct as he and his wife appear on
the 1891, 1901 and 1911 census records that are available. The most credible report is a
death date of 1923 (see below).
Just when Richard Peter Davey converted to being of the Methodist Wesleyan faith is not
readily known. There is presently no adult baptism found and he was appearently first
baptized Church of England as that is how it is presented to be in the OPC supplied records.
And presently there is no evidence that this couple had any living surviving children. Now
between 1861 and 1871 Richard is followed to have become a Wesleyan Methodist Minister,
processing from being a butcher to a congresional Minister leader.

With Thomas Toms being identified as Elizabeth Toms' father on the 1881 census, the only Elizabeth Toms match found that matches living date to a 1836 birth date is one found in Boconnoc, that being the one referenced above. There Thomas is the Head of house, in the wife's position is Honour, and in the children's position, Mary Toms age 6 and Elizabeth Toms age 5.

If on any day, Sunday certainly is the day of the week that a Minister would be moving about.
In his own household which comes together from the faithful servant Sarah Jackman's present
to a very interesting revelation that Elizabeth's father is Thomas Toms, age 75 in 1881.
Perhaps what leads some to presume that Richard P Davey must have died 1881, is their lack of ability to find him where he was at during the time of that census. The distance from Bath to Wanstow is about 20 miles, a do able distance. And if the actual locations are just in those two District and the actual placement of the two location within those districts could even make it a shorter distance. As for 'Foresfield Place, it is right in Bath. Now the 'trump' is that there was a railway that would run the distance that by automobile today was about a half and hour, would make that trip in about an hour or so in 1881.
Wanstrow Primitive Wesleyan Methodist Chapel (1877 A.D.) is just around the corner and is
near Studley Lane and Farm. Richard P Davey, Wesleyan Minister, would have been on circuit
assignment from Bath by railway (with the Railway Hotel listed on the same Census District
3 of Wanstrow*—from Bath to Wanstrow Church & Studley Farm (near to Coles Farm) in Wanstow in 1881: The trip
was ably done with time to spare for Minister Richard P Davey to have taken on that Sunday,
April 3, 1881. The Census record
Now back to the consideration of the father of Elizabeth Toms being Thomas Toms age 75 in 1881. That would mean that back in 1841 this Thomas Toms would be about 35 years old. Also now consider what is meant by being born in Liskeard in 1836 when this Thomas Toms was age about 30. Liskeard whether a registration district or Parish boundry, had began to include many smaller communities reaching as far south as Morval, and as wide as from Duloe to Menehiot and beyond. And thus the seach for this family may widen beyond just the Borough of the city of Liskeard where the parish church is located. And when one reports this place of birth, that is not necessarily the parish nearest them but what 'place' big and wide or as small as it may be. * The Census of Wanstrow District 3 discription reads: "Wanstrow - Civil Parish All that part of the Parish of Wanstrow East of the Road leading from Frome to Bruton inluding cottage on the Common Coles Farm Wanstrow Street both sides, Studley and the ?Brundry? near Upton Noble also the Rectory." (The curse of reading cursive resides). * When the number 1 is written with the top angle line is too prominant, it is mistaken to
be the number 4. Here the age of 41 fits beter the circumstance rather than just being an
out right error. But certainly with a moniker such as Richard Thomas Hender Peter, it is
the same person.
** Based only on 1841 Falmouth census record where listed at age 30 a Betsey Peters, a
Mariner's wife, with another Elizabeth Peters age 2. (dancing with straws in the air
genealogists) Lets first look at that 1841 census record of Falmouth.

* My mama was always very sensitive regarding her early marriage despite the cause being partly
due to an abusive father towards her religion and such. She would always say she was married
in her 17th years, though she was just age 16 when married to escape her home environment.
Annabella/Arabella/Isabella Emma Cardew seems to have a similar problem of some kind as she
uses both alternate first name versions and also age reportings which range from 1844, 1845
and 1846. The parish baptism would mean she was age 16, in her 17th year when married. That is
under age in England.

Richard Thomas Hender Peter and Mary Grace Stephens Crabb FamilyThe 1851 census record will state that Mary Peter [Mary Grace [Stevens] Crabb] was born at Callington. Perhaps she didn't reall know and just stated where she was at. Her baptism was at Stoke Damerel, Devon. And though may will make her full name Mary Grace Stephens Crabe, I've yet to find it on a record that way. Her parents were married at St Andrews, Plymoth, Devon on 28 February 1805 as William (Wm) Crabb and Grace Steven.
Richard Thomas Hender Peter, son of Richard Peter and Grace Hender.
Mary Grace Stephens Crabb, daughter of William Crabb and Grace Stevens as noted by one entry. (Married
St Andrews, Plymouth, Devon, England 28 February 1805.)

Title Bond, estate of William Davey, :Lewannick
Date 20 Sep 1827
Format Manuscript
Extent 1 piece
Description Parties:
(1)Mary Davey of Lewannick, widow to (2)Richard Davey of Lewannick,
yeoman. Bond in £500 To abide by arbitration of Francis Hearle Rodd
and John King Lethbridge in dispute concerning estate of Mary's
deceased husband William Davey.
Note: This may be due to the step by step timing of the marriage of 19 November 1825 and
then the death, 24 May 1826, and burial of William Davey in 1826 only 5 months after
the marriage. And then the child and heir of William Davey being born in the same year
that William Davey was deceased some months later. She being Christian Baptized, 6 November
1826 at Lewannic. Review the sequence of dates above. It seems to be tied to Mary Davey
the daughter that Stray(er) Park in Polyphant and that which follows the family from Davey
through Dennis, and then to Strout. And the family grouping who subsequentually lives
together perhaps being further testament (see the census records below).

1841 Census Record of Lewannick - StrayerparkThis is a notable fact to concider in this progression of events. In 1826, Mary Davy was baptized as daughter of William and Mary Davy whose residence was at stray(er)park in Lewannick. Then in 1841 at 16 years old Mary Davy is still living at Strayerpark, Lewannick. But in the household 'Head' is Thomas Dennis and his wife Mary, who is the same as the mother of Mary Davey, who married Thomas Dennis in 1830. The two elderly siblings of Mary (Peter Davey) Dennis and Jenny (Peter Garland) Hender have become Schoolmistresses living at Pryers. And the Strout family of husband John and wife Mary, and their other daughter have a household to themselves. It can in and of it self tell a story and with additional attending facts and circumstances further story elements can be added there to. Young Mary Peter's age followed that common course of a woman's age over the years, at 16 she was 16, at 26 she was 25, at 36 she was 34 and at 46 she has there remained at 44. Sometimes in death the age returns to the actual age, but even there it may continue on and give a bit of an often younger false reading.

Upon the deaths of their parents and whatever their relationship was to Jenny Garland nee Peter, Aunt and likely stepmother, by 1841 Jenny/Jane was now wife of John Hender, saddler of Polyphant; and three of the children of Susanna and Edward Garland were living in their own household at Coads Green on the census. But they were not left entirely alone. Read through the 1841 census transcription and consider who is there in the household with them. Above Richard Garland, age about 24, married Mary Ann Cundy on 6 March 1841. The 1841 census was taken 6 June 1841. Richard and Mary were just a few months married and settled into their household. One household over in on direction is that of John Peter, son of Arthur Peter Sr. and wife and mother Ann Dawe who is in the household. Also there is Arthur Peter Jr. son and brother of the aforesaid. One household over in the other direction is that of Uncle Richard Garland with his wife Mary and who looks to be Grandmother Mary Shovel, wife of Grandfather Richard Garland, deceased. Beside Richard and his new wife Mary, others in his household are his younger brother Edward Turner Garland and his Uncle Samuel Peter, a confirmed bachelor. The young Apprendice Sadler would be William Worth Hender. Richard's uncle and likely perhaps step-mother Jenny Peter Garland who married Edward Garland (1830) after sister Susanna's death (1827). And after Edward Garland's death, Jenny/Jane Garland nee Peter next married John Hender (1840) who was witness at young Richard's wedding just held in the spring. William Worth Hender is John Hender's nephew, the son of John's brother William Hender the Watch and Clockmaker of Callington (my 3rd greatgrandfather).

![]() Whether truly longterm residents of Stoke Damerel, or like some of my ancestors [aka Thomas Rowe Hender & Mary aina Trout, and Philip Trout Hender & Grace Chipman/Chapman], they have just slipped crossed the county lines over from Cornwall to just inside Devon to get married at Damerel. It does appear to be the long sought after marriage record of Jenny Peter and Mr. [Edward] Garland. In fact there is real likelihood that this is the same Edward Garland who was married to Jenny's sister Susanna Peter. Susanna Peter married Edward Garland on 7 November 1815 at North Hill. Then Susanna later died on 20 of December 1827. Now just over 2 years later sister Jenny Peter is marrying Edward Garland as well. Jenny would be a 32 year old spinster, 3 years younger than sister Susanna, who would be well aquinted with Edward Garland and her sister Susanna Garland nee Peter. Coincidence or fact of the matter. What do you bet? If it be the fact of the matter, Aunt Jenny will have become step-mother Jenny to her sisters children, as many as 4 from ages 4 to 13, Richard age 13, Elizabeth Peter Garland age 10, Mary Anne Peter Garland age 5 and Edward Turner Garland age 4. It continues to build that Jenny Peter has a very close associated with this family. Jenny becomes a member of the Wesleyan Methodists and is buried there upon her death in 1886 even after her marriage to John Hender. This is just as the two family daughters of Edward Garlands family are so buried Wesleyan Methodist. Also when enlarged the occupation of Jenny's husband Edward Garland of the Stoke Damerel marriage is that of 'A Farmer' as is that of Edward Garland the widowed husband of Susanna Peter, Jenny's sister. Further the Hender family including John Hender, Jenny's next husband, and his family relations such as William Worth Hender, feed into the life of family of the Edward and Susanna. William Worth Hender is Apprentice Saddler in household of the Garland children including Uncle Samuel Peter. And John Hender is one of the signing witnesses on the marriage record of Richard Garland, the oldest son in 1841. There is nothing that comes to stand out against it and all contributing evidences are in favor of the matter. On the marriage record of Jenny Garland [nee Peter] widow and John Hender widower, is found the two witnesses of Wm. Hender and Richard Garland. It would seem that Wm. Hender is John's brother William Hender the Clock and Watchmaker of Callington and Richard Garland would be the eldest son of Edward Garland and Susanna Peter, baptism 1817. And he would be age 23 at the time of giving away his 'step-mother' Jenny Garland to the close family friend John Hender, who is also a 'saddler' by trade. Add in the family ties of the long since two Hender daughters to the older two Peter sons, and it is as thought it is just one big happy family here. If all fits and nothing is out of place.
