Related Families of William T. Collins and Grace (Chipman) (Hender) Collins, First the Wife of Philip Trout Hender

Compiled and Annotated by Don R. Hender

While not exactly initially a cousin family, eventually it becomes the source of such. Yet it has a more closely related relationship. William T. Collins became the 2nd husband of Grace Chipman, Philip Trout Hender being the first. Genealogically speaking, since Philip Trout Hender was short lived in duration of married life, Grace would likely have a choice as to whom she would select, being sealed to both men, Philip Trout Hender of whom she had Albert Hender or William Thomas Collins by whom she had several children. Thus in this respect not only should we be interested in our related children of William and Grace, but we ought to as well be concerned with the family and ancestry of William Thomas Collins as well. To that end an imediate graphic image may be here provided, the family and ancestry of William T. Collins:

IMPORTANT: Found on the 1841 census of Pelynt, Book 15 Folio 23 Page 14, is the small family of Thomas Collins age 20, Lucy Collins age 20 and Thomas Collins age 10m. This is the young Thomas and Lucy family with an added son that is not shown on any of the other census records of 1851, 1861, or 1871. Thus there is one more child not accounted for by the information shown here, Thomas Collins (Collings), born 1840. The 1841 Census rules of rounding down (20-24 as 20) is what leads to the ages of Thomas and Lucy being both stated as age 20.

Now I can personally vouch for the family members, brothers and sisters and parents of William Thomas Collins as proven by the Cornwall Census records which I will present on a separate page, a 'Census Study II - of the Collins Family'. Now outside of one correction being that 'Ely' and 'Elizabeth' are the same person, a second correction that of the listing of birth places Talland and Polperro, and a third correction to the family name, it being 'Collins' and not 'Collings' the listing of children appears correct for the William Thomas Colliins family members, which I will here enumerate. Also the rest of the information presented in the Collins family tree appears to be the truth of the matter until and unless further studied and proven otherwise.

Now these children of John Collins and Lucy are truely half aunts and uncles, not merely cousins with of course the exception of William Thomas Collins who is our 'Step Great Grandfather' the second husband of Grace (Chipman) (Hender) Chipman.

Now that the 'ancestry' of our kinsman has been given, lets turn to the actual descendants of William Thomas Collins and Grace (Chipman) (Hender). The following simple pedigree chart well be taken from the census records of Canada as after the 1881 Census of East Looe, Corwall, England, which only did show the family of William Collins, his wife Grace and 'step' son Albert Hender is when the births of their Collins children did commence.

William Thomas Collins = Grace Chipman (Hender)

Now to review the exact relationship of each, William Thomas Collins would be my Step Great Grandfather, Grace Chipman is my Great Grandmother. And the Children, the daughters Maude, Jane, Mary, Gertrude G., and Alice M. are by 'half' Great Aunts, while son Willian Collins would be my 'half' Great Uncle. As for cousins, any and all further descendants of this family would be 'half' cousins.
