             CHAPTER 6

King Benjamin records the names of the people and appoints priests to teach them—Mosiah reigns as a righteous king. [About 124—121 B.C.]

1 AND now, king Benjamin thought it was expedient, after having finished speaking to the people, that he should atake the names of all those who had entered into a covenant with God to keep his commandments.
2 And it came to pass that there was not one soul, except it were little children, but who had entered into the covenant and had taken upon them the name of Christ.

 1a D&C 128:8

3 And again, it came to pass that when king Benjamin had made an end of all these things, and had consecrated his son aMosiah to be a ruler and a king over his people, and had given him all the charges concerning the kingdom, and also had bappointed cpriests to dteach the peoplea, that thereby they might hear and know the commandments of God, and to stir them up in remembrance of the eoath which they had made, he dismissed the multitude, and they returned, every one, according to their ffamilies, to their own houses.
4 And Mosiah began to reign in his father's stead. *And he began to reign in the thirtieth year of his age, making in the whole, about four hundred and seventy-six years from the atime that Lehi left Jerusalem.
5 And king Benjamin lived three *years and he died.

3a had appointed priests to teach the people Now the abridged record as well as the lost 116 pages which causes the record to commence in the latter end of the reign of King Benjamin does not do justice nor does it give much understanding to the nature of the kingdom at this time. Mosiah I was a prophet whom God raised up to deliver the Nephites who would listen to his warning voice to depart out of the land of Nephi and journey north into what was the land of Zarahemla. There Mosiah I became the prophet king over the joint people of the Nephites and the Mulekites. As a 'prophet king', much like Nephi had been, Mosiah did establish both the afares of the state as well as the afares of the church. This is what King Benjamin is continuing to do. As he has been charged by the ministering of angels to conduct this great revival and set in order the afares of the church as it guiding prophet. And thus also will it be so under the reign of King Mosiah II, the son of King Benjamin. And even after Alma come into the land with authority for God also and coordinates with King Moisah the afares of the 'church' in that day, king Mosiah II will still have his own authorized 'priests' who do minister in the kingdom though the central afares has been given to Alam to conduct. And thus the church and state became divided in preparation for the administration of the Judges instead of a king and the administration of the church under a separate head where upon when Alma the younger does vacate the judgment seat to Nephihah in order to administer primarily in the afares of the church. The matters of this united system of goverment is not give in great detail. But it would be of great interest to view them as they are no doubt a type of the system which will exist under the great King David of the Millennial Day, even Jesus Christ our King and our God.  3a Mosiah 1:10; Mosiah 2:30

6 And it came to pass that king Mosiah did awalk in the ways of the Lord, and did observe his judgments and his statutes, and did keep his commandments in all things whatsoever he commanded him.
7 And king Mosiah did cause his people that they should till the earth. And he also, himself, did till the earth, that thereby he might anot become burdensome to his people, that he might do according to that which his father had done in all things. And there was no contention among all his people for the space of three years.
