Lot entertains holy men—The men of Sodom seek to abuse Lot's guests, and are smitten with blindness—Lot sent out of Sodom—The Lord rains brimstone and fire upon Sodom and Gomorrah—Lot's daughters preserve his seed in the land. |
Lot receives the three holy messengers sent by Jehovah—The men of Sodom seek to abuse Lot's guests and are smitten blind—Lot is commanded to leave Sodom—The Lord rains destruction upon Sodom and Gomorrah— Considering themselves sole survivors, Lot's daughters preserve human seed in the land. | |
  1 AND there came
atwo
bangelsa to Sodom at
even; and Lot sat in the gate of
Sodomb: and Lot seeing them rose up to
meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the
groundc;
2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and awash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all nighta.   3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a afeast, and did bake bunleavened bread, and they did eat. |
1a two angels The Joseph
Smith Translation corrects this 'error' and makes it
'three angels' as had
both visited and then departed from Abraham and the Lord in
chapter 18 to come to make their
determination upon Sodom and Gomorrah. A careful reading of chapter 18 will
reveal that the Lord and three other men which stood by or with the Lord
had come to visit Abraham in chapter 18. The Lord was present at that
visit with Abraham and was the primary speaker when one understands that
the Lord was there with Abraham and the others all the time. When the men
departed and the Lord remained with Abraham in the later end of chapter 18,
the 'three' men departed to go to Sodom and these are the three which came
to Lots door as corrected by Joseph Smith. 1b Lot sat in the gate of Sodom The Joseph Smith Translation corrects this to read 'Lot sat in the door of his house'. It would seem that the three angels knew exactly where they were going as they came into the city of Sodom and approached the house of Lot. This presents well that fact that the visitor's 'test' was unto Lot alone, Sodom being entirely wicked having less than 10 righteous in the city. 1c he bowed himself with his face toward the ground Lot was impressed with the importance of these three messengers. Though they did not appear in 'glory' as angels of God, Lot had accessed that they where men of righteousness and authority, and not of the wickedness of Sodom. 2a Nay; but we will abide in the street all night Both a further test of Lot's true intent and a matter of social politeness, this response from the three messenger angles, is not unlike that of one's socially polite offer of just give me a call if you need any help or inquiry of how are you, expecting no respones but 'fine' or to really be called upon. Thus is the socially emptiness which lacks any true or real intent, having but empty meaning other than to make the socially acceptable offer or inquiry. Lot's offer was however of true intent as he persued his offer and insisted upon housing the messengers. Lot could have taken the easy way out and simply stated, 'Okay then, do as you will and not have further pursued the taking of the three messengers in. But that would have likely left Lot to the fate of Sodom as an 'accomplice' by default as one who would stand by and allow wickedness to go unresisted upon another. |

4 ¶ But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:
5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may aknow them.   6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,   7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. |

8 aBehold now, I have two
bdaughters which have not known man; let me,
[NOT] I pray you, bring them out
unto you, and do ye [NOT] to them
as is good in your eyes: only [also]
unto these men do nothing; for therefore ccame they
under the shadow of my roof.
Now the transcriber of this matter in the scriptures did error. Perhaps he made it to be a parallel with the account in Judges 19 concerning the city of Benjamin. Rather he ought to have made it a constrasting account wherein Lot was worthy to be saved while the old man and men of Benjamin as well as the whoremongers of Sodom were not. Lot DID NOT offer his daughters unto the men of Sodom as the man of Benjamin did offer the Levite's concubine and his own daughter to the whoremongers of Benjamin. Rather Lot denied the men and plead for both his daughters and also the three holy visiters who were staying with him as corrected by the inspiration of God by the Prophet Joseph Smith. It is strange how some who choose to see this differently than that revealed unto the Prophet Joseph Smith can still enbolden themselves by their own wicked desires to justify 'gay sodomy' while still calling themselves 'Mormon'. For in this any who does not accept the doctrine of the Prophet Joseph, how can they still be Mormon? |
13 And Lot said, Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let
me, I pray you, plead with my brethren that I may not bring them out unto
you; and ye shall not do unto them as seemeth good in your eyes;
14 For God will not justify his servant in this thing; wherefore, let me plead with my brethren, this once only, that unto these men ye do nothing, that they may have peace in my house; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.
It is an obvious error in the Jewish Bible. The translator/transcriber/editor missed not only the 'NOTs' but a number of verses and lines here, whether on purpose or due to damaged scriptual records. Whatever the cause, the error is obvious, for indeed God WOULD NOT save Lot if he were a man who would cause his daughters to be so abused by the whoremongers of Sodom. Certainly if they are virgins, then Lot has successfully protected them from such before. Why then on the eve of being saved would Lot suddenly act out of character? He obviously would not and thus we are saved here from contradiction of scriptural intent by Joseph Smith's inspired translation of the turth of the matter. |

9 And they said, Stand back. And they said
again, This one fellow came in to asojourn,
and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with
them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to
break the door.
10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door. |
15 And they were angry with Lot and came near to break the door, but the angels of God,
which were holy men, put forth their hand and pulled Lot into the house unto them, and
shut the door.

them out of this place:
13 For we will destroy this place, because the acry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.   14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, aget you bout of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed
in the iniquity of the city.
16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being amerciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city. |
23 And when the morning came, the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife,

24 And while he lingered the angels laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the Lord being merciful unto them; and they brought them forth, and set them down without the city. |

17 ¶ And it came to pass, when they had brought
them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; alook
not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the

18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:   19 Behold now, thy servant hath found agrace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die: |
25 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad that they said unto
them, Escape for your lives; look not behind you, neither stay you in all the plain; escape

26 And Lot said unto one of them, Oh, not so my Lord! behold now, thy servant has found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy which thou hast showed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil overtake me, and I die. |

20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.
21 And he said unto him, See, I have aaccepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.   22 Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called aZoar. |
27 Behold now, here is another city, and this is near to flee unto and it is a little one; oh,
let me escape thither, and may the Lord not destroy it, and my soul shall live.
28 And the angel said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken; haste thee, escape thither, for I cannot do anything until thou be come thither. 29 And the name of the city was called Zoar. Therefore the sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar. 30 And the Lord did not destroy Sodom until Lot had entered into Zoar. |

31 And then, when Lot had entered into Zoar, the Lord rained upon Sodom, and upon
Gomorrah; for the angels called upon the name of the Lord for brimstone and fire from
the Lord out of heaven.
32 And thus they overthrew those cities and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. |

Gen. 19:17 b Luke 17:32 (31-33)
'Looking back behind her husband's back' implies that Lot's wife was not inaccord with her husband Lot. Her intent was to, as Jesus Christ stated in Luke, return to Sodom, from whence they had fled. It was not just a mere glancing of the eye toward where they had been, that would have been most impossible to do in a flight of travel not to be from time to time turned around in one's gaze. It was the turning around of one's intentions and going behind her husband's direction to flee that had set upon Lot's wife as she had engaged upon turning back to Sodom. And what the warning is to be in considering Lot's wife, is to not go behind the back in a manner which does thwart righteous command or authortiy. Lot had commanded his family to flee according to the instructions of the angels sent to deliver him. And Lot's wife was not true to her husband's righteous command. What wife of treachery underminds her husband by going behind his back in her intentions and doings in the wickedness of persuing her own unrighteous designs? That is a wicked woman, that is Lot's wife. |
27 ¶ And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:

29 ¶ And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.

36 And Abraham was comforted. And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar. And he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters. |
