11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their
adays in prosperitya, and their
years in bpleasures.
12 But if they aobey not, they shall perish by the sword, and
they shall die without knowledge.
13 But the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath: they cry not when he bindeth them.
14 They die in youth, and their life is among the unclean.

11a If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their
days in prosperity Elihu begins to talk at cross reasoning, creating a perpetual catch 22.
If you are poor but righteous, serve the Lord and he will prosper you. But if you happen to stay in
poverty and affliction then you must be guilty of some wickedness. It seems that Elihu, while speaking
about the Lord caring for the poor, forgets that the poor are often sore afflicted because of their
poverty, which can have little to do with degrees of righteousness. One wonders if this is not why
it is more difficult for a rich man to enter into Heaven. If the rich are so judging the poor and the
afflicted as sinners, and themselves as righteous because of their wealth, that also seems to be a
sort of a catch 22.
