PYNE/PINE - Both of the names of Pyne/Pine and Stephens can be found in those
names which are of the Cornish Gentry. Yet, I do not suppose that either my Denzill Pyne or
Jane Stephens are so closely related to the Gentry families. At least I am not able to extend,
at present, either of them back to their next generation families. And yet they are one of
the sets of my seventh great grandparents. Denzill, variously spelt and found, and Jane, are
the parents of a family of at least 5 daughters (see short pedigree below). One of their last
daughters, Elizabeth who is perhaps a twin of her early deceased sister Susanna, becomes by 6th
great grandmother as she marries Nicholas Morshead and they have a daughter named Jane Morshead
who become 'Jenny' Morshead by 'nickname' and later 'Jenny Moon' by her marriage to
Edward Moon. And they become one of my sets of 5th great grandparents
through their eldest son Niclolas, who is denoted as being a 'Gentleman'.
Denzill Pyne leaves a will, displayed at the end below, which bequeaths all his lands and Fee
Single Estates in the parish of Liskeard to his daughter Elizabeth the wife of Nicholas
Morshead. And it would seem by will, Elizabeth Morshead pass at least some of this on down to
her daughter 'Jenny Moon' and the Moon grandchildren (see Elizabeth
Morshead Will).

** Jane/Joan Stephens is the widow of Jn. Stephens, sen. She is so disclosed in a National
Archive note concerning Penquite, Liskeard, where she as the wife of Denzell Pyne is noted
to be the parents of Mary Pyne spinster. 20 June 1716. See note below:
Penquite, Liskeard [no ref. or date]
[no title] X556/63 20 June 1716
Contents:
99 yr. lease (lives of Jn., s. of Jn. Stephens of Liskeard, yeo., Mary Pyne, spr., dau. of
lessee, and Joan, w. of Jn. Stephens, sen.); rent 26/8.
(1) Jn. Harrys of Radford, Devon, esq., to (2) Denzell Pyne of Liskeard, yeo.
Consideration: £150.
Penquite, late occ. Jn. Cowling, gent., decd.
To extract the data it reads: Mary Pyne, spinster daughter of lessee [Denzell Pyne] and Joan
widow of John Stephens, sen.
It only makes sense that Joan is widow of and not wife of, because Joan is wife of Denzell in
order to be mother of Mary Pyne.
