MOON/MOONE/MOHUN - The common variations of the Moon name are MOON and MOONE. But recently I've been exposed to another variation which has more ancient and some 'Visitation' connections. Some may have already found this out. That name is Mohun and if one reads the footnotes of the Mohun family in 1620 Visitations of Cornwall, they will readily see that there are many Moons who have come from that source of the name, Mohun to Moon. The Moon family of Cornwall England in the vacinity of Liskeard, seems to be a contradiction. On the one hand they seem inter-related and refer to each other in their will, but they are also of distinct Moon lines for generations at a time. Thus far, I have been in contact with Canadian decendants of Moon who seem to be cousins to each other and distant cousins to myself. Thus I have began to place some web pages dedicated to sharing such cousins of the Moon family from these modern investigating cousins of Moon to those ancestral cousins of Liskeard Cornwall to whom we are related to in our ancestry. An 'index' to these cousin pages is at the link below. I've also put together a page which speaks to the subject of some of the 'Moon Family Haunts'. That is were they can be pinpointed to have lived in Liskeard.

Now, at least the Moon/Moone/Mohun origin of the Moon family has been considered in the County of Cornwall. Moon being such a common name that it appears elsewhere frequently about the lands, it is certainly not too surpising to have other considerations named. The 'newer' minds have picked up the question of the chicken and the egg in Devon. Since a family who inherited a 'Moon Estate' took upon themselves that Moon Estate surname, they propose that all the Moon families of both Devon and Cornwall are to be derived out of and from that Moon Estate family's adoption of the name Moon. This begs to ask just who or what was the Moon Estate itself named after. Was it not named after a previously surnamed Moon family or was it named Moon for some other reason. At least the Mohun origin has a visitation more ancient name as it source in Cornwall. And at least one of my own Moon family members has their marriage recored under the name of Mohun to boot. I personally suspect and look to the ancient Mohun - Moon connect in Cornwall, and to let Devon pursue what they will as to their origin of there Moon families there.

    MOON COUSINS

    Moon Family Haunts

    My Other Moon Family Line

Within and round about the Parish of Liskeard dwelt my Moon families. It is not well determined just who the earlier lines are, though there does appear to be some relationships indicated and not one marriage relationship later connected between the Moons of Higher Clicker and of Trewen/Treheer. I have, to the best of my current knowledge represented here what knowledge and information I have as to these families. The links above are to such Moon cousins that have been put together. There is a page of some of the known places where they lived. And I now have a second Moon line in Liskeard which I descend from and it does not seem to be either of my regular Cornelius Moon Line or the Theophilus Moon line. I've linked to what I know about that above as well. None of this is meant to be the final word but a search direction of information that does continue as I am still researching out these Moon family lines.

My Current Levels of Attempted Verifying Research

Christopher MOONE = Ann HOORE
Married: 24 Novermber 1635 - Liskeard, Cornwall, England
Considered as 'My'
~ 9th Great Grandparents ~

Christopher Moone, my 'likely' 9th Great Grandfather, married Ann Hoore on the 24th of November 1635 in the Parish of Liskeard. Their known children as established by the will of Christopher Moone are as follows:

  • Ann Moone - married Mr. Steed and has one son at date of will, John Steed.
  • Corneilus Moone - born c. 1637. Married Jane Slade 18 January 1664.
  • Dorothy Moone - died 1663.
  • Philip Moone - born c. 1642.
  • Mary Moone - died 1667.

As to the 'calculated' ages of the five children named in Christoper Moone's will, it is 'presumed' that the children are in the will listed per age. That is Ann who at her father's will of 1658, is already named as having married a Mr. Steed and having a son named John Steed, the named grandchild in her father's will of 1657/58. As for son Cornelius Moone, he seems treated as an adult in his father's will, who is out and working, though he is not yet married. Christopher's will was written 18 March 1657 and proved 20 June 1658.

That is, Cornelius is already treated by his father at the time of the will as a working adult and in conjunction with that perhaps already having been further provided for accordingly. By the way, having accessed the will myself and being able to greatly enlarge the photo copied image, I rather make it out that Cornelius is given 'twelve pounds' and not just 'twelve pence.' The lettering is forming the letters 'p, o, u, n, and an 'inked faded or deteriorated' letter d' given my best determination.

Thus married daughter Ann Steed is given three pounds and her son John Steed, Christopher's only grandchild as of the date of his will, is given "one Ewe and Lamb." Son Cornelius, most likely working and making his own living is but given only twelve pounds and as he will not yet marry his wife to be, Jane Slade, until 1664, six years hence. His other three younger children have not yet reached their adult age of 20 years and thus they are given inheritances according upon recieving their ages of twenty years as stated in their father Christopher's will. It all fits together well to be so deduced.

Oldest son Cornelius well may have been previous to the will more provided for beyond the twelve pounds. Younger son Philip is to be give 100 pounds when he reaches the age of twenty, and daughters Dorothy and Mary are to be give 'threescore' pounds each upon when they will become the age of twenty as well. (see and read their father's will)

    Cornelius MOON and Jane SLADE
    Considered as 'My'
    ~ 8th Great Grandparents ~

Cornelius Moon, my 'seemingly likely' 8th Great Grandfather married Jane Slade of the Slade family of Gorran. As I can first find the couple, they are named in Jane Slade's father's will written 11th February 1686. There William Slade names Jane Moone as his daughter and as son in law, Cornelius Moone, at which time such children of this couple are alluded to but not by name. The first child that I can find, being named as daughter of Cornelius Moone and his wife Jane, is Ann Moone baptism 1666. Mr. Cornelius Moone died September, 1694 and was buried 7 September, 1694, Liskeard. Their children including Ann, which are attributed to this marriage are as follows but without specific known order and baptism or birth dates at this time:

  • Ann Moone - baptism 1666.
  • Mary Moone - baptism 1667.
  • Christopher Moone - baptism 28 June 1670, Liskeard.
  • Cornelius Moone - married Grace BODY als. OLIVER 1696 - see next.
  • Philip Moone - died March 1693, son of Mr. Cornelius Moon, buried 18 March 1693, Liskeard.
  • Beatrice Moone - baptism 1673, who would have been named after Jane Slade's mother Beatrise, died January 1674, Liskeard, daughter of Mr. Cornelius Moon per parish note on burial record, so likely died as child.
  • Another unnamed daughter - perhaps Ann first named? or Mary second named?
  • William Moone - who died as child, son of Mr. Cornelius Moon, 8 October 1682, Liskeard.

    * Footnotes from Visitations 1620 Concerning connection between Mohun and Moon/Moone being the same
name-See copied note below after the family parish records.
    * NOTE: In burials there is one Nicholas Moon buried 24 March 1726 at St Keyne age 62. That age 62
would suggest a birth about 1664, which would match the January 1664 marriage date of Cornelius Moon
and Jane Slade above. The Kicker is that at death this Nicholas Moon's residence was that of Trehere.
Certainly there is a place where Cornelius Moon and Ann Slade may have had a first child born son in
1664. Could Nicholas Moon be another member of this family?

From the text of the 1620 Visitations of Cornwall, page 146 comes this partial extraction from the footnotes to the Mohun family. Here it has selected from the parish of St Pinnock a list of three daughters Ann, Mary and Beatrice of Cornelius Moone and his wife Jane. Whether that parish register has any further concerning the children of this couple is of some question but certainly there is Beatrice named after her mother Jane Slade's mother Beatrise wife of William Slade of Trevennen and Treveor in Gorran.

A NOTE: It ought to be spoken here that while 'some' consider the 1620 visitations somewhat spurious, there is in fact much more truth in it that what we have available to us today in various surviving records. And there is a weath of information contained therein from such items in the details of the footnotes. And many local histories have used it as the basis of their records such that of Blisland. To some extent the resistence to it is that it seems to come from 'family' information of a time period in which what has been given there no longer has that support of remaining existing records such as the fact that the OPC extrations for St. Pinnock have not been made available for such as the information stated in the footnote above or that record has deteriorated or is no longer existent due to the wear and tear of time. The very fact of such detailed preparation in the visitation information does speak to it reliablity as being at least that of the modern 'contrived' genealogies of the world today.

All told, for over 40 year, now near 50; of involvement in genealogical research, I have found that each genealogy prepared has merit, and each has likely flaws. What one who seeks out the truth of the matters has to do is research and accept eact for what they are and what they can contribute. Many of the modern day compilations I find but to be the product of 'quick and easy fit and some are just looking for a 'fit' so they can have a genealogy. I've also found that there is today, as there was also in older genealogies an active attempt to keep family 'younger lines' and those whose lines were not 'acceptable to the gentry and also those of 'colonial' other lands such as America, out of the gentry. So the lines are have been cut short in that 'nose-thumbing' effort of keeping the 'British Peerage' clean of the commoner. Truth told there is more of us connected to the gentry than the gentry wants there to be. There are also those who want to be so connected that they are welling to fabricate themselves to be so connect. Between those lines of fabrication and intentional exclusiveness exclusion, and one must search for the truths of the matter and it is not easily disclosed. Truth has been muddled by both sides, but truth is what is to be desired in one's 'true' pedigree.

One example in particular that can't be denied is the attempt of the 'British' to 'weed out the lines of those not British.' I've seen 'fabrication' for the Hender genealogy to attempt to keep it local and not connected to their Welsh lines even those there are the Welsh based records that do tie it directly to Wales. And perhaps this from both sides as well. From those who 'do not want their true Welsh connection' and those that 'do not want them to have any such historical connection, to so practice the shove of exclusions of falsification of eliminations of such from the lines being anything less but 'proper common English locals.' And then there are those who push and attempt to grab such connections even though they many not be. And such is quite frustrating to one who has to fight the 'push and shove of it all' and only wants the real truth of a matter.

Cornelius MOON and Grace BODY alias^ OLIVER
    Being Considered as Our
    ~ 7th Great Grandparents ~

Cornelius Moon, my seemingly likely 7th Great Grandfather married Grace Body 15 January 1696 at Liskeard. He was deceased in 1767 at age about 71. His will was written 10/11 June 1760 and later poved at Archdeacony Court. Their children are:

  • Cornelius Moon was baptized 14 July 1697 at Liskeard parish. He was the son of Cornelius Moon and his then wife Grace Body. He married Joan/Joane Bowden at Duloe parish 18 February 1728 under the name of Cornelius Mohun. He died March 1767 and was buried 8 March 1767 at St Keyne the same year as a grandson named Cornelius Moon.
  • Ezekiell Moone*, christened 28 Dec 1698, the son of Cornelius Moone and Grace Body.
  • Anne Moone, christened 23 Oct 1700, daughter of Cornelius Moone and wife Grace Body.
  • Joane Moone, christened 6 Oct 1704, daughter of Cornelius Moone and wife.
  • John Moone, buried 10 Mar 1706?, St. Keyne (son of Cornelius Moone) per. no baptism

^ For what ever reason or purpose, this was an age when 'alias' surnames would be used by some people. See the note on the parish marriage entry listed below. * When a new name enters into a family it is looked to from whence it came. In the case of Ezekiel, it is the name of his mother's brother who died an infant death, Ezekiel Oliver.

    My MOON / MOHUN Family

MOON/MOONE/MOHUN: Until just last night, at the time of this writing (7/22/2014), the search for the surname of the wife of Cornelius Moon has been searched for. And perhaps there are those who are in the know who would have solved it years ago, but it came to me in my searches online just last night. I've basically known that the name Moon and Moone is frequently mixed in its spellings relative to the same person and family, even if only so created by the ending little swirl of the penman's hand. But I did not know or come to know, that is, it has alluded me 'forever', that the names of Moon and Mohun have a similar, though less frequent, similar relationship. That is Moon and Mohun can be the same last name. And in the case of the recording of the marriage of Cornelius Moon and Joan Bowden, it was so recorded. Thus in the words of the trendy French Inspector, 'The mystery has been solv-ed.' Some may scoff at me for me not knowing. Others might chide me that it is not so. But I have now found for myself that it is so. Now I've just got to solve whether she is Joan, Joane, Johan, Jean, Jone, Jane, or John etc. in the family records as to her first name, and just which is her last name, Bowden, Bawden or some other such related alternative for that name as well.(:

That the name Moon/Moone comes from Mohun, though often a corruption of (be it perhaps intentional) Mohun, can not be denied. Perhaps one of the best written records of proof of this is the compiled text of the Corwall 1620 Visitations. In that peerage listing is Mohun whose footnotes added of related descendants, though not of a peerage status, are filled with those who names are both Moon and Moone. And our own proof in the 'pudding' is the record of the marriage of Cornelius Moon/Mohun and Joan Bowden recorded in the Duloe parrish on 1728. Whether written by intent of Cornelius or by some knowledge of the recorder, it seems to indicate that our Cornelius is one such Moon whose ancestry falls back to Mohun at some point and in some fashion.

    Cornelius Moon/Mohun and Joan Bowden
    ~ 6th Great Grandparents ~

As one of my 6th Great Grandfathers, I look to Cornelius Moon, Yeoman (1694/7-1767). He was 'baptized' 14 Jul 1697 in Liskeard, the son of Cornelius Moon and his then wife Grace Body. He died March 1767 and was buried 8 March 1767 at St. Keyne where it is that all his grand children and great grandchildren will also befound buried. His wife was a Joan Bowden/Bawden, the daughter of Edward Bawden/Bowden and Jane Chapman. (She is not the daughter of Thomas Bawden and Mary Mounce because that child died and was buried the same year she was christened in 1699. Cornelius and Joan/Joane were married at Duloe though Cornelius was a resident of Liskeard. Exactly why the recorder or transcriber varied from the regular manner of recording the name is subject to one's speculation. But Mohun is Moon as there is no 'Mohun' name events in a range of 50 years anywhere in the whole general area. Also, on another note, the name Cornelius has appeared in the wills of both the foregoing Theophilus Moon Sr. (1720) and Theophilus Moon Jr. (1747) and properties from the second will appear next in his grandson Robert Moon's will listed below. But that connection needs to still be worked out. The known children of this family appear to be as follows:

    • Grace Moon christened 21 December 1729 at St. Keyne. She is now considered to have been named after he grandmother Grace Body, the wife of grandfather Cornelius Moon.
    • Edward Moon christened 13 September 1731 at Liskeard. The name Edward is introduced into the family at this point as the father of Joan/Joane Bowden/Bawden is named Edward Bawden/Bowden of Duloe parish. Edward Moon married Jenny Morshead 14 December 1762, Morval, Cornwall.
    • Susanna Moon(e) christened 29 October 1733, Liskeard and buried 19 February 1756, St. Keyne.
    • Elizabeth Moon christened 26 June 1738, Liskeard.
    • Cornelius Moon christened 26 January 1740 at Liskeard.
    • Jane Moon christened 6 September 1743, Liskeard.
    • Robert Moon christened 24 March 1745, Liskeard and buried 11 December 1756 St. Keyne.

Edward Moon and Jenny/Jenney [Jane/Jone/Jean/Joan] Morshead
    ~ 5th Great Grandparents ~

  • Some, on but 'best fit', have seemed to suggest that the wife of Edward Moon and mother of Nicholas Moon should be denoted as 'Susanna Hicks'. There is a clinching note which makes this NOT the case. In Nicholas' will, wherein is named Philip Trout as the husband of Nicholas' daughter Susanna, Nicholas also his 'brother in law' Richard Stephens. Now Richard Stephens is the husband of Nicholas' sister Jenny/Jane who in her mother's will, Jenny Moon, is named as Jenny Stephens, with her two sisters Elizabeth Moon and Ann Hingston. Now to confirm that family tie more, brother Robert's will also mentions the sister trio, but before Jenny's marriage to Richard Stephens, as he names Jenny Moon, Elizabeth Moon and Ann Hingston as his sisters. Between the will writing of Robert's will 15 July 1805 and that of Jenny Moon's will written 15 November 1810, sister and daughter Jenny will marry Richard Stephens and thus when Nicholas names his brother in law in his will written 9 April 1821, he is indeed referencing the husband of Jenny Moon his sister. And she is the sister of Robert Moon and also of Elizabeth Moon and Ann Moon Hingston. With Jenny Morshead and Edward Moon being married in 1762, before the birth of Nicholas Moon in 1763, there is just no logic to anyone attempting to squeeze play in Susanna Hicks as wife of Edward Moon and mother of Nicholas Moon. It is just NOT SO. I've now just recently transcribed for a web page the Last Will and Testament of Elizabeth Morshead, the mother of Jenny Moon, wife of Edward Moon which should dispell any such question as this to further be considered (Elizabeth Morshead Will).

Here now is this family's simple line pedigree chart taken from the cousin's page from the family of Edward Moon and Jenny [Jane] Morshead.

One of my 5th Great Grandfathers is Edward Moon who was christened 13th of September 1731. He married Jenny Morshead on the 14th December 1762 at Morval. It is the family WILLS which connect this family together and to the next generation beginning with the will of Jenny (Morshead) Moon that ties this family together. Their children are as follows:

    • Nicholas Moon christened 23 May 1763 at Liskeard was my 4th great grandfather. He was buried 24 May 1826 at age 62 and married a Mary Ann FITZE 4 March 1794 at Liskeard parish. He was named after his grandfather, the father of his mother Jenny/Jane Morshead, that name of course being Nicholas Moreshead. See his Nicholas Moon's will and family as it appears in that will and the next family group after this one below.
    • Susanna Moon christened 20 May 1765 at Liskeard, married 16 Jun 1788 to Joseph Moon of High Clicker at Liskeard. She died in the end of 1795 and was buried at Liskeard on 3 December 1795, she most likely from complication with child birth. Her baby son Charles lived, and while she was buried in December of 1795, Charles was baptized in January of 1796.
    • Cornelius Moon, born c1767, d. 21 April 1767. There is an infant Child's burial recorded, Cornelius Moon, son of Edward Moon per the parish record, he would have died in March 1767 and he was buried 21 March 1767 at St Keyne. That is the same year in which grandfather Cornelius Moon also passes away. He would fit here as another previously missed child's mortality.
    • Cornelius Moon christened 1 December 1769. His will written 15 October 1832 which helps to estabish this family. As many of his family died before him his only mentions are his sister Elizabeth Carswell the wife of Robert Carswell. He died 3rd of February 1837.
    • Robert Moon born 1772 as Christianed 16 October 1772 at Liskeard and died in 1805. His will written 15 July 1805 helps estabish this family as it mentions his 'dear mother', brothers Nicholas Moon and Cornelius Moon. He further mentions his nephew Charles Moon the son of Joseph Moon and it was presumed that Joseph Moon was therefore another brother. But time and added information from other sources have proven this Joseph Moon to be but brother in law, the husband of Susanna Moon, one of Roberts sisters who was deceased at time of Robert's writing of his will. Robert does name his three living sisters in his will as Jenny Moon, Elizabeth Moon, and Ann Moon.
    • Joseph Moon of High Clicker. -It is now determined that this Joseph Moon named in Robert Moon's will was not Robert's brother but his brother-in-law, the husband of Robert's sister Susanna Moon. I leave this information here that anyone else who has placed him as a son of this family may also understand this and so remove him from this family.
    • Jenny/Jane Moon was born about 1780 (age 60? 1841 census), she is now found under Jinny Moon, baptism date of 27 Feb 1775 and the Bishop's Transcript did have her as 'Jenny' though Jago's was transcribed from as Jinny. She married Richard Stephens who is mentioned in her brother Nicholas Moon's will. Richard Stephens died 26 March 1840 at Liskeard per his Admon and Jenny Moon Stephens burial may be found under that name as occuring the 15th or perhaps the 14th of October 1857, she being age 82. The burial was at Liskeard. Richard's parents appear that they might be William Stephens and Rebecca ______.
    • Elizabeth Moon cb 7 Nov 1777 Liskeard (age 75? 1851, 83 1861 Census), who married Robert Carswell.
    • Ann Moon born 1781 and Christened 24 October 1781 at Lisheard Parish. On her Christening Record her mother is named as Jenney and father Edward. She marries a Mr. [Richard] Hingston 10 Sep 1810 where he, Richard Hingston is listed as a bachelor and as a surgeon, and Ann Moon is listed as a spinster, as she would have been age 28/29. Also, on the 1851 Census of Liskeard Borough, Ann's age of 70 further varifies all the connections and her birth of 1781.

Jenny Morshead Moon, my 5th great grandmother was born about 1735/6. Her will was written 15 November 1810 and dated 23 April 1815. She was buried at St. Keyne on the 30 January 1815 at age 79. In Jenny Moon's will she names her mother Elizabeth Morshead (deceased) and her three daughters Jenny Stephens, Elizabeth Moon, and Ann Hingston. Also as a clinching note to who the Susanna Moon was who married Joseph Moon of High Clicker, it is in Jenny [Morshead] Moon's will where she names as HER two grandsons, both Charles Moon and Joseph Moon the two sons of Joseph Moon of High Clicker and Susanna Moon who must therefore be her daughter Susanna to make those two sons HER grandsons.

Nicholas Moon and Mary Ann FITZE*
    ~ 4th Great Grandparents ~

    * A recent source, now confirmed, makes this Mary Ann FITZE, chr. 28 August 1769, Liskeard on IGI, the daughter of Joseph FITZE and Ann. That source also gives a marriage date of 4 March 1794, Liskeard, which does fit well with the 'calculated' date of their first son Edward's birth. This source gives Mary Ann Moon's death date as 18 October 1847, St Keyne. She is a resident of Little Treheer on the 1841 census of Liskeard where she is head of house and age 70. The actual age on the OPC extraction is 78 at death which matches Mary Ann FITZE's baptism date as a near birth date and seems to confirm that she is indeed this Nicholas MOON's wife. See the Fitze pedigree page to further confirm family alignments with FITZE.

Now, from a page on how a family's common family graveyard may well help to identify a family in genealogy work [The Case of Where They Are Buried], I adapt this family's previously there developed simple line pedigree charting as follows.

See Counsins from Nicholas and Mary Ann Moon

One of my 4th Great Grandfathers was Nicholas Moon, Gentleman of Great Treheer. His will was processed 15 June 1826. From his will and the wills of many of his children it is determined that the children of this family are as follows:

    • Edward Moon of Treeheer, Gentleman, was born about 1795 (age 45 on 1841 census record). His baptism record is not found and perhaps not listed. He married Peggy (Margaret) Sobey on the 16th of June 1835 and died 12th of August 1849 and was buried at St Keyne 14 August 1849. He left a will that helps to establish this family. In his will he names his two brothers Nicholas and Cornelius, and his wife Peggy. He also names his sister Many Ann Snell and many of her family, his late sister Susan (Trout) and her children, and his sister Jane Raby and her children and husband George Raby. And he also extensively refers to his niece Mary the daughter of his sister Susan Trout as now being the Wife of Thomas Hender my 2nd great grandfather.
    • Susannah/Susan Moon was born about 1797 and Christian baptism 9 July 1797 as recorded in Liskeard. She's my 3rd great grandmother who married Philip Trout of St Martin by Looe on 29 April 1819 in the parish of Liskeard. She died 21 May 1839 at age 42 and was buried in the St. Martin's parish church yard cemetary. Her death in 1839 explains why she is not listed with her husband Philip Trout and their children in the 1841 census of East Looe. See also the Trout History Page for details.
    • Mary Ann Moon was born about 1798-her baptism was 2 August 1798. She married William Snell of Devoran on 5 August 1817 at the parish of Liskeard and had four known Snell children, Edmund Snell, William Snell, James Snell, and Joseph Snell.
    • Jane Moon was born about 1799, Christian Baptism 13 November 1799 (age 40 1841 census East Looe, 51 in 1851 Menheniot census). She married George Raby of St Martin by Looe on 1 June 1824 at the parish of Likeard and had five known children named Susan/Susanna S Raby, Charlotte Raby, Jane Raby, Fanny Raby, and George Raby. Jane [Moon] Raby died 1 August 1869 at Pool Hall and left a Codicil dated 21 September to her will found in 1869 Wills.
    • Nicholas Moon of Treheers, Gentleman, born about 1801-baptism recorded 24 September 1801 at Liskeard. He died 31st March 1849 and his will helps to estabish this family by mentioning the Snell family and children of his sister Mary Ann, the Raby family and children of his sister Jane, and the Trout family and children of his sister Susan/Susannah my 3rd great grandmother. In his will's listing of the Trout family Nicholas refers to his niece Mary (Trout the) Wife of Mr. Hender of East Looe who would be my 2nd great grandparents. He further mentions his brother Cornelius Moon
    • Joseph Moon whose baptism is recorded 17 May 1803 at Liskeard, appears to have died March 1804 and was buried where the family graves are at 27 March 1804, St Keyne.
    • Elizabeth Moon of Little Treeheer was born about 1804 though she often lists her age a bit short. Her baptism is recored 22 November 1804 at Liskeard. She was a spinster and died 16th of March 1841 when her will was written. Her will helps to estabish this family by mentioning her three brothers Edward, Nicholas, and Cornelius. She also mentions her sister Mary Ann Snell and her husband William Snell.
    • Cornelius Moon was last born about 1806 (age 35 1841 census)-baptism 15 January 1807 at Liskeard. He married Abagail Little, daughter of Joseph and Abigail Little of St. Pinnock. She was 'baptized' 13 December 1825. Uncle Cornelius died in 1882. He had one daughter Mary Moon shown on 1861 and 1871 census records of Great Treheer, Liskeard, Cornwall. This daughter Mary Moon marries Thomas Congdon of Lanlivery where they live and on the 1881 Lanlivery Census. They are there with a son, a 1 year old, named Cornelius M. Congdon.
In the 1851 census Cornelius was at Treheer alone with no wife and in 1841 census he was shown working with his brother Nicholas at his mother's, Mary Ann Moon of Little Treheer. On the 1881 census he, age 74, is at Little Treheer with only his wife Abigail age 55.

In his will he names his wife Mary Ann Moon, his sons Nicholas, Cornelius, and Edward, his daughter Mary Ann wife of William Snell and some of their children, his daughter Susannah wife of Philip Trout (my ancestors) and some of their children, and his two daughters Jane and Elizabeth Moon. He also mentions his brother-in-law Richard Stephens the husband of his sister Jenny/Jane Moon which helps to tie him into the family of his parents Edward Moon and Jenny/Joan/Jane Morshead above.

    An Extended Pedgree Chart

There is an extended line Moon pedigree circulating on the WEB concerning those of my Moon families. I can personally vouch for the last three from multiple source for the generations from Cornelius Moon = Joan/Jane Bawden/Bowden, to Edward Moon = Jenny Morshead, to Nicholas Moon = Mary Ann Fitze and as I have evidenced above on to Cornelius (jr) and Grace Body and then to Cornelius (sr) and Jane Slade. As to the actual further documents of support for the rest of there are this pedigree which suggests that a Christophe Moon and wife Ann is the next link back. I've seen another pedigree that would make that next link back be to a William Moon. The said referenced circulating pedigree is now presented below. From my personally researched I have lined my Moon ancstor's descent in red.

    Source: Frank McGuire: mcguirfl@nex.net.au

A Quick Rundown on the Above Chart

C6.1 Nicholas Moon was named after his maternal grandfather Nicholas Morshead, Jenny/Jane/Joan's Father. Nicholas' maternal grandmother was Elizabeth Morshead nee Pyne/Pine. He married Mary Ann Fitze. They had a family of eight children but no male 'Moon' named descendants, only grand clidren named Raby (Jane), Trout (Susanna), Snell (Mary Ann) and Mary Moon (Cornelius Moon). His sons Edward and Nicholas have no children and it is his son Joseph Moon who died in 1804 as a yearly. His fourth daughter Elizabeth Moon dies a spinster in 1841 and leaves a will.
C6.2 Susanna Moon married Joseph Moon of Higher Clicker and has three children, Joseph Moon of Higher Clicker who marries twice and thus has two Moon families, Jenny Moon who dies as a child, and Charles Moon who never marries and dies living with his cousin Jane Raby nee Moon, one of the daughter of Nichols Moon and Mary Ann Fitze, which Jane married George Raby who become the Raby family of Poole Hall, Menheniot.
C6.3 Ann Moon marries Richard Hingston Jr., surgeon and they have a sizable family.
