Thirteenth Stage of Colonization and Settlement of Zarahemla

(Some 300 Years Prosperity to the Beginning of the End - 35-363 AD)

by Don R. Hender

The map we have built to this point spans from the initial colonization, the first settlement and then the development of the land and/or nation of Zarahemla. Much of what we know of it occured over about 200 years for the most part, from that time that the surviving Nephites under Mosiah I traveled from the south to the north and happened upon the kingdom of King Zarahemla, a decsendant of Mulek. And it is couched in wars and great destructions of the land and people. Now, what would happen to a land that grew and developed over another period of some 200 years of Christian living in continual peace and prosperity plus another 100 years of relative peace and prosperity as various stages of apostasy set in? Obviously, there would be great population increases which would increase the cities and populations in the land. I've lived in northern Utah for over a period of more than 60 years. In that time it has grown and changed greatly, farms have become housing developments, shopping malls have appeared where once there where none at all, and take away a few land marks and historical buildings, and you would not recognize many of these areas at all. The pioneers first entered the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. Then there was basically nothing. Almost everything in terms of population and civilization has come into being since that time, in just over 150 years. It is of little wonderd that when Mormon was brought into the Land or Nation of Zarahemla in about 330 AD, that the whole land was filled with people, citties and buildings. To define all of these would be useless as very few have survived or show such evidence today. What happened to them can only be accounted for by understanding the 'dark-ages' of the Americas which set in after the Lamanite anihilation of the Nephite nation. And that is another topic for another time. It does little to attempt to locate the Land of David, Angola and other such Zarahemla sites on our map of Colonization and Settlement as they are all gone. What does remain is a rough archealogical mapping which roughly correlates with the initial settlements and civiliations of the Nephites. And that is what Mormon has given us. And that is what we have presented here.

It is almost as the Christian Utopia Era never occurred or happened. In a land where building was primarily dependent upon timber, such can be expected, especially since the low replacing culture was build upon false gods and dedicated to the utter destruction of not only the Nephite people, but anything that was Nephite and would give any evidence of the Nephite people being a highly civilized people who had the fullness of the Gospel of Christ amongst them. But this gets into the discussions in the last and final stage, which is next.
