1 I WILL stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
2 And the LORD answered me, and said,
aWrite the vision, and make it plain upon
tablesa,
that he may run that readeth it.

2a Write the vision, and make it
plain upon tables What and where is the vision which Habakkuk was
given to write? Is it chapter 1? That seems to be more of the word of the
Lord unto Habakkuk regarding what he will do contemporarily by the hand of
the Babylonians. It is more of a spoken word rendition than a 'visionary'
picture. The rest of chapter 2 also seems to be more spoken word than a
visionary picture. That leaves chapter 3, for there are only three chapters
in the book of Habakkuk. But that chapter seems on the surface to be but a
song, a psalm. But perhaps that was what was meant by 'making it plain upon
tables'. Perhaps the 'tables' were those of music, that it might be so sung
from generation to generation and so made plain. Certainly there does seem
to be a vision of the Second Coming of the Lord within chapter 3 from the
beginning of the 'song of testimony' in verse three to its conclusion in
verse 13 (see chapter 3).
