BATH/BATHE:
Within the Parish of Egloskerry dwelt my Bath family. The map of the
Launceston Distict of Parishes at the right locates a number of the parishes
in which this Bath Family did have family related events. They lived in
Egloskerry (9), Roger Bath married Honour Chapman in North Petherwin (3).
Sarah Bath would marry John Adams of Laneast (13). And eventually Sarah
Adams would marry Thomas Hender of Altarnun (12).
John BATH and Margrett ?
7th Great Grandparents
My 7th Great Grandfather was John Bath. He married Margarett
who's last name is currently unknown.
Known to be in his family are three sons as follows:
- John Bath christened at Egloskerry on the 20th of April,
1662; disposition unknown.
- Degory Bath christened 20 December, 1663 at Egloskerry.
He married Sarah Prest on October 31, 1694. His
will was written and dated December 1, 1732.
And his burial is considered that of 10 January 1737, just over 4 years
after the writing of his will. It his this will of my
7th Great Uncle that helps to put my Bath family together. That will was written
at the end of 1732, December and Degory appears to have died some 4 years later
and was buried in January of 1737.
- Leonard Bath, was christened 9 June 1668 at Egloskerry.
- Roger Bath, my 6th Great Grandfather, was christened 7th December,
1674 at Egloskerry. He married Honor who's last name is currently unknown
to me. They had several children, many of whom are mentioned in Roger's
brother's will, Degory Bath.
Not much is known of this family. There is likely other children between
Degory and Roger but they are currently unknown to me.
Roger BATH and Honor/Honour CHAPMAN
6th Great Grandparents
My 6th Great Grandfather was Roger Bath of Egloskerry who was christened
there on the 7th of December, 1674. He married Honor who now appears to
be Honour Chapman as recorded from the extracted parish marriage entry at
North Petherwin, dated 28 Mar 1706?. They had 10 known children listed
below as follows:
- John Bath christened at Laneast on the 14th January, 1706. It is his
will that ties the family of Roger Bath to that of
my 5th Great Grandparents John Adams
and Sarah (Bath) Adams the daugther of
Roger Bath as it mentions his sister Sarah Adams and her daugther Sarah
(Adams) Hender who married my 4th Great Grandfather Thomas
Hender of Altarnun. Futher mentioned is his brother in law John Adams and
the other children of John Adams and Sarah (Bath) Adams named Williams Adams,
Honour Ham, and Christian Adams with reference to Christian's disability by
providing funds for her care.
- Mary Bath christened at Egloskerry on the 21st of June, 1708. She married
Thomas Rundell or Rundle on the 2nd February, 1735.
- Margaret Bath who's christening I have yet to find yet as per her uncle's
will, she should be placed in the family at about this position.
- Degory Bath christened at Egloskerry on the 13th of April, 1710. His
disposition is currently unknown.
- Roger Bath christened at Egloskerry on the 4th of July, 1712. His
disposition is currently unknown.
- Honor/Honour Bath christened at Egloskerry on the 11th of May, 1714. She
married William Courtice/Courtis on the 8th of May, 1746.
- Radigund/Rodigun Bath christened at Egloskerry on the 30th of August, 1715.
She, as where many of her brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews, was mentioned
in her uncle Degory's will.
- Sarah Bath, my 4th Great Grandmother, was christened at Egloskerry on the
23rd of July, 1718. She married John Adams my 5th Great Grandfather on the
7th of April, 1752. She was his second wife as he had previously married.
They had four children. See the Adams family history.
- Roger Bath christened at Egloskerry on the 11 July, 1721.
- Joan Bath christened at Egloskerry on the 25th of August, 1723. She
was the baby by some years and she married a George Scawn/Scown on the 2nd of
April, 1757 at Stratton.
As stated, my Bath families have been put together by parish records and the
wills of Degory Bath my 7th Great Uncle and John Bath my 6th Great Uncle.
if these two wills are any indication, it would seem that not much if any of
this Bath family's male line survived as there is no mention of any Bath
brothers' decendants other than that of Roger Bath my 6th Great Grandfather.
While there is amble mention of sisters and sisters' marriages and children.
