Matthew's Gospel was directed and written to the Jews. It emphsized Christ's Royal Ancestral lineage by which the Kingdom rightfully belonged to Him. Matthew takes great care in presenting the major events in his witness to the Jews and particularly those which are reflective of the fulfilment of the Old Testament prophecies. It also places great stress upon the relationships of Christ and the Gospel to that well known and understood Jewish Covenant of Abraham and of course the Laws of Moses.
