But They All Look the Same to Me

reproof by Don R. Hender

THE World's Fastest Idiot, that is what the computer is. And the attitude is becoming, just as it has been in respect to text books, if the computer says so it must be right. That is the falsehood facing us today. If the News Media says so, it is so. FALSE! If it is printed in black and white in the book it is so. WRONG! If the computer establishes it as being correct then it is correct. ABSOLUTELY NOT! All of these items are based upon the human element and subject to human error. The NEWS can be and sadly today, likely is wrong. The IVORY TOWER has changed its stance and mind so many times that today's texts are tomorrow's scrap paper. And for sure the world's fastest idiot, the computer, is no smarter that the programmer and it cannot make or exercise intelligent reasoning to detect what is correct and true and what is not. It just does and is what it is told. And when it is given garbage to process, it becomes a matter of GARBAGE IN — GARBAGE OUT.

And sorry, that is the problem with all these computerized quick and dirty pedigrees. One person puts it in, another copies that and it begins to proliferate exponentially through the system until you may never be rid of the error that has been generated. And were are the checks as to the correctness when whatever is input is taken and accepted without vetting, that screening of the input for the truth of the matter or not?

And what happens when an error gets established into place by the world's fastest idiot according to the corruptions of falsehoods in the nature of the thing when there are no standards of screening information being put in? Currently there is no standard. Anyone and everyone are encouraged to feed the system and the system cannot think. It is an idiot. An idiot that can proliferate the matter faster than people who may know the truth can correct it. And just what are people going to believe, the computer with its thousands of prescriptions or the one who knows for sure?

It's a loosing battle. For the last 20 years I've been seeing it ripple through the system on the internet sights of 'free' and 'paid' genealogy closed circuit proprietary sites. And it is not the one with the best or correct product that wins. It is the one who propagates it the fastest to the extinction of the rest. And with money, pride and ego in the mix, truth seems to take the lowly and lonely backseat in the pecking order.

Anyway - YELL!

The referened 1861 Census record lists John Hender as 'Father in law' to who would be the head of house. The 'Head' of house on that census entry is James Best with his wife Elizabeth, the presumed daughter of John Hender and his wife Elizabeth listed with the family. The family has three Best children. And the Best family has found their Hender family connection in Thomas Hender and Sarah Adams the stated parents of John Hender who is being identified as their son and the John Hender of the Census record. HAPPY DAY OR 'NOT'!

Now the author of the corruption on the paid registration site had mixed John Hender of St Cleer into the family of Thomas Hender and Sarah Adams of Altarnun. Thomas Hender and Sarah Adams are my 4th Great Grandparents and I have studied their family extensively for over 40 years. (I'm old I guess) I have also sorted out many of the Hender families in Cornwall over those years.

The poorly placed John Hender of St Cleer married Elizabeth Elliott in St Cleer in 1813. His parents would be John Hender and Joan Trenowth. They had a daughter Elizabeth who married James Best. It is with the family of James Best that John Hender and Elizabeth his wife are with on the 1861 census referenced by this person in their attempt to plant him in the Altarnun family.

As for the John Hender who is properly a member of the Altarnun family, he became a 'saddler,' and settled in Polyphant, Lewannick near North Hill. He married first Mary Smeeth and after her death in early 1840, he married the widow of Edward Garland, Jenny Garland nee Peter. That Jenny/Jane Peter is the daughter of Richard Peter(s) and Elizabeth Turner. Jenny's sister Susanna Peter married Edward Garland. She died in 1827 and Jenny married Edward Garland at Stoke Damerel, Devon in 1830. Whether this is the same Edward Garland is yet to be determined for sure.
