                 CHAPTER 14                   

Israel shall be gathered and enjoy Millennial rest—Lucifer cast out of heaven for rebellion—Israel shall triumph over Babylon (the world)—Compare 2 Nephi 24.

             CHAPTER 24

Israel shall be gathered and shall enjoy millennial rest—Lucifer cast out of heaven for rebellion—Israel shall triumph over Babylon (the world)—Compare Isaiah 14. [Between 559 and 545]

The gathering of Israel is a significant part of the fulfilling of the covenant of Abraham in taking the blessings of the gospel to all nations. Why it is included in the Book of Mormon is that it is a part of fulfilling these promises to the fathers concerning the everlasting covenant of God.
  1 aFOR the LORD will have bmercy on Jacob, and will yet cchoose Israel, and set them in their own dland: and the estrangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob.
  2 And the apeople shall take them, and bbring them to their place: and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the LORD for servants and handmaids: and they shall take them ccaptives, whose captives they were; and they shall drule over their oppressors.
  3 And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve,

 1b they shall take them captives unto whom they were captives This may well have a dualistic meaning but on obvious meaning is that the 'African Egyptians' to whom the Children of Israel were made captives to serve, the would be so taken captives or servants of this Gentile nation containing the Kingdom of Israel, the house of Joseph. Another possible dualistic meaning would be that where the people had been 'captives' under the rule of the great and abominable church of the devil, they would take of them out of that captivity and bring them in to the 'captivity' or membership of the true Kingdom of God.

1 aFOR the Lord will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet bchoose Israel, and set them in their own land; and the cstrangers shall be joined with thema, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob.
2 And the people shall take them and bring them to their place; yea, from far unto the ends of the earth; and they shall return to their alands of promise. And the house of Israel shall bpossess them, and the land of the Lord shall be for cservants and handmaids; and they shall take them captives unto whom they were captivesb; and they shall drule over their oppressors.
3 And it shall come to pass in that day that the Lord shall give thee arest, from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve.

 1a will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land: and the strangers shal be joined with them Israel here is the Kingdom of Ephraim over the Kingdom of Judah, for Ephraim was given the name and title of Israel under the hand of Jacob (JST Genesis 48:5). Their 'own land' is that land of Joseph which is the Americas as stipulated before the days of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph in the vision of all had by Mahonri Moriancumr (the brother of Jared), presurved by the hand of Ether and reported in the record recorded by Moroni (Ether 13:2-8). And the 'strangers' which should join them and 'cleave unto the house of Jacob are the Gentiles to whom the Gospel was restored, though they in truth were the seed of Ephraim and Joseph as well as of Jesse hid amid the Gentile nations (Isaiah 11:10 & D&C 113:5-6).

  4 ¶ That thou shalt take up this aproverb against the king of aBabylona, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the cgolden city ceased!
  5 The LORD hath broken the astaff of the bwicked, and the sceptre of the rulers.
  6 He who smote the people in wrath with aa continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth.

 4a the king of Babylon The Babylon spoken of here is the Wicked World, and though the Jews may well have considered it to be the Babylon of thier time, it is in truth that Babylon of the Devil that transcends time and nations. And the King of that Babylon is Lucifer. He is that oppressor who has keep the posterity of Adam in the chains and captivity of sin with the lure of gliter and gold, even that supposed 'golden city' (sin city) of the evils and pleasures of the world.

4 And it shall come to pass in that day, that thou shalt take up this proverb aagainst the king of bBabylona, and say: How hath the oppressor ceased, the golden city ceased!
5 The Lord hath broken the staff of the awicked, the scepters of the rulers.
6 aHe who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth.

 4a the king of Babylon The king of Babylon, that is the king and lord of the wicked is to be understood as Satan, even Lucifer, that once upon a time great spirit which was cast down from Heaven, and he who will also be cast out of the earth at the cleansing thereof into the sides of the pit forever.

  7 The whole earth is at arest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing.
  8 Yea, the afir trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art blaid down, no cfeller is come up against us.

  16 They that see athee shall bnarrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
  17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?
  18 All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in aglory, every one in bhis own house.
16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and shall consider thee, and shall say: Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms?
17 And made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof, and opened not the house of his prisoners?

21 Prepare slaughter for his children for the ainiquities of their fathers, that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.

  24 ¶ The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:
  25 That I will break the aAssyrian in my land, and upon bmy mountains tread him under foot: then shall his cyoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders.
  26 This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole aearth: and this is the hand that is stretched out upon ball the nations.
  27 For the LORD of hosts hath apurposed, and who shall disannul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?
24 The Lord of Hosts hath sworn, saying: Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand--
25 That I will bring the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot; then shall his ayoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders.

  28 In the ayear that king bAhaz died was this cburden.
  29 ¶ Rejoice not thou, whole aPalestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.

 28a In the year that king Ahaz died was this burden. That is to say: The prophecy of Isaiah saw stated in the year the Ahaz died. This does not mean that it applied just to that time and age as such vision and prophecies are often 'dualistic' meaning they have more than one application. This was just when it was first given Isaiah and to the world through him. The prophecy actually applies much as well to the latter-days.

 29a 'because the rod of him that smote thee is broken' Many treat this verse as solely applyng to Hezekiah, the son of Ahaz. But it has reference to Christ as 'the serpent's root'. As Jehovah, God of the Old Testament, he smote the wicked 'Palestina' and will further again do so. He was/is the crucified, 'broken' serpent. Yet will he will come forth like in the symbolism remenisent of the images of the Americas, as a 'cockatrice' and in the form of a 'fiery flying serpent' which is the symbol of Christ in Central America being Quetsaquadel and which the foreshadowing of the serpents of Moses' time that were. Such 'serpents' touch' were also a means of destruction to the wicked of the Jaredites at one time. In fact it was Christ/Jehovah who fought Hezekiah's battles for him in his age as well. Thus the wider broader perspective is that this is speaking of the Lord our God.

The serpent's root is Jesse, the root of Jesse, the posterity and seed of Jesse, who is Christ.

  30 And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety: and I will kill thy root with famine, and he shall slay thy remnant.

  32 What shall one then answer the messengers of the anation? That the LORD hath founded bZion, and the poor of his people shall trust in it.

PHILISTIA 
 Philistia or Philitines is a reference to the land are of Gaza according to today's map. The word also has a meaning of 'strangers' or 'sojourners' of the land. In a more relevant application to today, Ezekiel prophesies that the Lord GOD states, "Behold, I will stretch out mine hand upon the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethims, and destroy the remnant of the sea coast." (Ezek. 25:16) The warning should be, 'don't mess with Israel', but the end will be in all those being destroyed who raise the arm against Israel, because dispite the warning they will come against God people and God will raise up and destroy those who do.
